Anyone could argue it. It is actually a more possible reality then the Godfather, especially for non Italians, so in a sense there is a certain attachment to it. Personally I gotta go with The Godfather 1 and 2 respectively. I also really love City of God. But Godfather 1 and 2 are flawless films.

Its like its subsequent influence sometimes overshadows the achievements of the film itself.

Its easily one of the most watchable and audacious films ever made. One of the most violent and stylishly shot mainstream films ever made.

Is it the best gangster film. Thats subjective, but imo no. Its the most fun gangster film by a mile.

I'm not really a big fan of Scarface, but if you're talking about a movie that pretty much follows one character, it's Scarface. All of the other movies has several stars.
That’s true, all these other movies are ensemble casts. Pacino had supporting players but the movie is all him, he’s in every scene.

Paid in Full was the only other great gangstar film where you kinda saw one actor "Ace/AZ" come up. But that was the quickest come up ever.

It would be great to see a good new gangster film that follows one guy from a boy to a man and his entire come up. It'll have to be like 3 hours.
