Answer is yes. As the budget crew the big set pieces in this show have become astounding but, ever since they got beyond the books the storytelling has gottan downright bad.

We used to see things happen, and grow, and fester and then explode or get cut short cruelly after spending time with it..

Now things just fukking happen.

Someone says something, and then a thing happens. There's beginning and end. This show, and the story it's based on, is great as there used to be a middle with so many layers and possibilities watching unfold was incredible.

Now things just happen.

Theon just walking into where his sister is kept in the first ep is case in point. She's taken. He says he's gonna get her. First episode back he just gets her. The end.

I don't disagree that it's the worst, but why is the anger never directed towards the blob who hasn't finished the books?
Because D&D are responsible for what they write. Of course they aren't going to be as good as GRRM but they should have enough to be logically consistent. A lot of their bad scenes and plots could be improved with some really simple and easy changes. A few rewrites. But they have pretty much admitted that spectacle is priority.

Honestly from what I hear about the books they’re gonna have the same problem. I think the detail that he goes into is amazing but there comes a point where it costs you in terms of moving the plot.

Now we gotta speed through these last 2 seasons because of the logistical elements of this being on TV. It’s gonna be kind of difficult for them to stick the landing with only 6 eps

That's a problem they essentially created. HBO was willing to give them more seasons. D&D wanted to wrap it up in season 7 and basically had to be begged to do a season 8. They want to move on to Star Wars and other projects, and I don't blame them. GoT is a 247/365 job and they've worked on it for going on a decade now.

I get why they want to hurry to the finish but I think that reflects in the writing. It didn't have to be rushed. HBO lets Westworld take all of the time they need, they would have done the same for Thrones.
