Well yeah. She had an actual backstory to her. She had depth as a result. Rey is a cardboard cutout. Think about how much more sense it makes if she turned out to be luke’s daughter and that he sent her mother away while she was on the way to protect her or that he wiped her memory and hid her on that planet to protect her and she comes to the realization of this. Then any sort of telepathic connection to her and Kylo makes sense because they’re cousins. It gives her real reason to be in the story. Jin was an important part of rogue one because her dad was the guy designing the Death Star. She’s their connection to reach him and that they can be trusted. If a character has a direct connection to the plot, it makes them much more interesting. Luke being the son of a Jedi Knight he never got to know who was a great pilot makes what he’s skilled at fit into the story. His recklessness and being so headstrong were traits he inherited from his dad. It also ties in with him being the pilot who blows up the Death Star. That’s what they needed for Rey. Depth and a backstory that makes her fit into the universe.
