Breh there is a distinct between what Playero and El General were doing wayyyyyy back in the 90s. Here in NY we used to fukk with this we Playero mix CDs real heavy. This is when you called it "Spanish Reggae" because cats were on different riddims and doing their own thing with it. On the other hand El General, I felt like, was paying homage even tho he kinda had a Super Cat ting going on but it came off as reggae in Spanish. And these two tracks are both classics
And his "Tu Pum Pum" track is considered a pioneering Spanish Reggae track even tho it's basically his take on something that was already out there.
El General is from Panama, repped his black/African culture and introduced something into the Spanish speaking Caribbean world that THEN was appropriated by Puerto Ricans (and Dominicans later on) and morphed into Reggaeton. General (and other Spanish reggae artists back then) weren't on this one riddim shyt. They actually had songs and you could tell one from another.
Oddly enough, General is a Jehovas Witness now and doesn't even rock with the music stuff anymore.
yes there is a clear difference between back then and now, they payed homage specially el general , but my main point continues I hate the new shyt I went to a Domiinican club I hate dembow music specially El alphas music he is stupid and repetitive, But once my selfhating Dominican queens starting shaking that ass
