I think a Jones/Toney rematch would've been interesting. I remember Toney saying their was issue and he wasn't 100% which lead to a falling out with his manager.
Same thing essentially happened with Ali.That loss of step absolutely destroyed Roy. He went from untouchable to looking like shark food.
There is no one like that in boxing history. That's the problem. Thats why he's one of a kind except maybe Sugar Ray Robinson who had insane speed and explosive power. He had terrible fundamentals, but he was maybe the greatest athelte to ever box so it didn't matter until he got older. If he fought another athletic fighter who had tight fundamentals, he would have been destroyed.
Montell Griffin didn't have the athleticism but he gave him issues because he was so skilled.
No...I don't like the Maywesther name being mentioned. Castillo basically outpointed him in his prime...Roy went rounds without getting touched. What he did to Reggie Johnson? Absolutely insane.
What you say about Mayweather..what I always have said, he held up better when they got in their mid 30s of course but Roy put weight on his body to win the heavyweight title and lost that weight in those mid 30s, he didn't hold up. Floyd never put on that kind of weight and lost it..so he had all of his abilities at 36 against a Canelo.

As for Griffin? He played the first match and when he pressed in the rematch, Griffin was murdered. If he pressed anybody, it would be KO after KO. He didn't have to though. And the issues people think he gave him, he handled better than a Joe Louis, Ali, Floyd, Duran, Jack Johnson, Tyson,, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns dealt with in their prime.
That's how it looked...that’s your opinion but I didn’t see that
Not easily..Griffin didn't have the timing, speed, or power to ever hurt him.He took risks in the second fight coming out and throwing all left hooks. He missed a lot of them wildly and could easily have gotten hurt if Griffin wasn't nervous.
And he got caught when he tried it with Tarver. He took risks in the second fight coming out and throwing all left hooks. He missed a lot of them wildly and could easily have gotten hurt if Griffin wasn't nervous.
Wasn't in his prime at that point..if him and Tarver were both 25, Tarver gets utterly decimated. A repeat of the Teslasco fight basically. And he got caught when he tried it with Tarver.
How do you measure when he was past prime though. He looked like he was his old self right before Tarver landed on him. After that you could see he wasn't moving the same thoughWasn't in his prime at that point..if him and Tarver were both 25, Tarver gets utterly decimated. A repeat of the Teslasco fight basically.
Easily..he was heading towards 35. Prime is 27-33..and nobody was remotely a challenge in that time frame. How do you measure when he was past prime though. He looked like he was his old self right before Tarver landed on him. After that you could see he wasn't moving the same though
You prolly right.Easily..he was heading towards 35. Prime is 27-33..and nobody was remotely a challenge in that time frame.
