Nore's the only artist I've seen say he coulda been been a bigger deal success-wise, but he woudn't, as he says, "go through that door".

Makes sense cause SuperThug was EVERYWHERE...... album stalled out at gold

but i cant get jigy wit I love my life

:dwillhuh:

That's a dope song too. "Ayo I grew up like a regular thug, sold drugs... wasn't proud about it, that's just what I had to do." :ohlawd:

Also that joint with Busta Rhymes is slept on.

To me a classic is less about nonstop heat front to back and more about does the album stand the test of time.

I shoulda posted this earlier but here's was I said about this a few years ago...

noreaga back then was killing shyt, duke wasn't the most lyrical but he still was dope as fukk back then. even krs thought he was dope and was fukking with noreaga back then and this predates the current era we are in where certain older rappers try to big up and leech onto the hot, new rapper with a buzz.

N.O.R.E. was in the deck non-stop when it dropped, easily replacing def squad and capital punishment.

Just being real, it was the only highly anticipated lp that dropped that summer that didn't disappoint me. lord tariq & peter gunz lp dropped and i was like :scusthov: , sunz of man dropped and i'm like :shaq2: , cam'ron dropped and i was literally :stopitslime: , def squad dropped and i was like :comeon: but when i heard N.O.R.E. i was :ohlawd: for real. i was expecting a nice lp since The War Report was straight fire and his guest spot on the firm album was immaculate and i wasn't let down at all. i still rock this shyt annually as it has aged nicely.

Da Story

LP is fukking greatness. straight bangers with a couple missteps (the chico debarge cut and the fiesta joint) duke was on his own on this lp, no tragedy there to ghostwrite for him, no capone to record with and dude still made a ill debut album.

He even came out with the no-name (at the time) Neptunes and gave them their first real big hit. don't try to claim that mase put them on cause let's be honest, nobody gave a fukk about or knew who the neptunes were until "Superthug" hit. nobody knew who they were when they laced mase with "Lookin' At Me", they just thought that was a hot song.

*puts glass in the air for N.O.R.E.*

Upper East coast classic for the era i can see other areas not fukkin with it tho. Was CNn/Nore ever big outside the East?

i'll bet bottom dollar they weren't big outside the north east because funny enough i was in the military when this album dropped and three of my closest homies were all from the south...... two from memphis and one from new orleans. i really tried to sell them on war report and they actually gave it a fair listen from beginning to end....

nah man they thought it was the worst shyt they had ever heard in their life lol. they fukked with up top artists like jay and dmx but this was a little too regional & the beats weren't something you could bounce to in the club. nore talking about putting the bogey out in your face and i had to explain what a bogey was shyt like that, i guess it didn't translate so we just bumped twista & that master p tru album instead

can't front i played it a lot and super thug killed the clubs but classic? nah it was a for the moment album. great production and nore had a lot of charisma/personality to go with that so it really worked at that time

but rhyme wise i really wish he built on the structure and style he was using on war report, he was so much better under khadafi's tutelage man.. shame they fell out

Maybe a classic in a minor

That Summer of 98, all the rap shows and clubs used to rinse the shyt out of that record

Banned from TV, Rikers Island, Superthug, the title track. Mad thing

Huge in Europe and London but so were most if not all North East acts in that era

One thing Im discovering about today is that whole late late 90s era/early 00s of NY music....unless you were Jay, X, maybe 50 and Puff, it doesnt seem to get the love and memory of how big it was and I never thought I'd see that (maybe dispet and Nas too to a lesser extent)

Its like the Tunnel era seems to be forgotten and thats mad to me cause they was getting heavy coverage
