Maybe your understanding is flawed. Everything he said was 100% accurate, but he didn't tell the whole truth because Mike's career didn't end with what he was talking about. But nothing he said was untrue.

John only has a point if Mike never improved his J or his left. It's like saying Kobe was never the best player in the L because he didn't start his first two years or Bron isn't he best player now because his defense was ass when he came into the league.

All this is hypothetical and cannot be proven, but I saw a 40 year old Kareem drop 40 plus twice on Hakeem/Sampson.
I remember it so vividly as a kid because of how my uncles were acting.
