He had a good 2 album run then people started calling him the best rapper alive.

Pre carter 2 no one gave a fukk bout lil wayne. He rode that hot boyz wave to sell albums.

He took advantage of a weak era in rap there really wasnt much competition lyrically. Hov became a business man eminem was on sabbatical & nas was no longer hot like he use to be.

I dont wanna hear that album sales bullshyt everyone knows bird and slim was buying albums to boost the numbers.

He was a C+ rapper in a F grade era

Lil Wayne is one of the best lyricist in hip hop regardless of era!

Lil Wayne a lyricist :mjlol:

Dude made cool music to vibe to and that's about it. Weak metaphors with incoherent lines. Damn near ever song was the same thing. Listen to fallin by jay z off American gangster, there's no way in hell lil Wayne could make a song like that.

Wayne is underated if anything. Its almost offensive and down right bizzare how people dont see or recognize his impact on damn near 95% of the current rap game.

Everyone from Chance The Rapper to Chief Keef.

These cornball hipsters wanna write dissertations about Chance, Young Thug n Future but nobody wanna give kudos to the guy that was doing all this shyt 10 years earlier
.

You say that like it's something to be proud of.

Can't call him the most overrated because dude was always polarizing and many considered him to be wack. He was also a pretty dope rapper in his prime:manny:

Ask any succesful rapper right now who their TOP 3 are and Wayne is either 1 or 2. Wayne is a GOAT but just because everyone now is so influenced by his style/ persona/ energy/ ,some of his stuff might sound cliche. The same way some people think Eddie murphy is funnier than Richard Pryor.

most of his stuff was cliche the moment it dropped breh.

I don't take "successful" rappers comments at face value. too many politics & buddy systems.

Nah tip had it on lock when king/atl movie dropped. What u know about that was the hottest sing out, then he dropped big shyt popping that was the hottest shyt out and then he caught that case and wayne blew. Wayne was hot but wasnt on that level in 05-06. Hell jeezy was hotter than wayne at the time and was actually going to do a mixtape with santana first. Then in 07 wayne blew the fukk up and was a superstar with c3 by 08.

jeezy was bigger than both of them.

as for tip, it wasn't the case that hurt him. it was the fact that "ti vs tip" was a wack album. if anything, the case was the best thing to happen to his career, because it took the focus off of his garbage LP, and made him even bigger. in a real rap era, where the music mattered the most, that album would've ended his career.

calling someone overrated, doesn't mean they weren't dope.

but for the record, you can indeed be both wack & polarizing at the same dam time.

Part of being overrated is that you receive undeserved universal praise. Wayne always had a balance of praise and criticism. Em would be an example of somebody that had near universal praise for a while.

that goes to drake, guy has zero bars, his stans go crazy over the most mundane things he says

he sings song but can't even sing, etc, using other people tracks, etc

don't see the appeal other than the marketing and hype
