He had a good 2 album run then people started calling him the best rapper alive.

Pre carter 2 no one gave a fukk bout lil wayne. He rode that hot boyz wave to sell albums.

He took advantage of a weak era in rap there really wasnt much competition lyrically. Hov became a business man eminem was on sabbatical & nas was no longer hot like he use to be.

I dont wanna hear that album sales bullshyt everyone knows bird and slim was buying albums to boost the numbers.

He was a C+ rapper in a F grade era

His mixtape material and successfully managing and capitalizing at the perfect time to be as huge as he was are enough for him to deserve the praise he gets

He was working nonstop, putting out music constantly. People love his mixtape material. He was killing guest-spots left and right, branded himself incredibly well, and was the most exciting thing for a while

I can understand, looking strictly at his albums, finding him to be overrated. Only looking at his albums and sales as what made him important or popular isn't the whole story though

Lil Wayne was a pretty good rapper but couldn't package albums for shyt and made the mistake of over saturating his shyt in the mixtape circuit instead of releasing shyt scarcely

Nah tip had it on lock when king/atl movie dropped. What u know about that was the hottest sing out, then he dropped big shyt popping that was the hottest shyt out and then he caught that case and wayne blew. Wayne was hot but wasnt on that level in 05-06. Hell jeezy was hotter than wayne at the time and was actually going to do a mixtape with santana first. Then in 07 wayne blew the fukk up and was a superstar with c3 by 08.
