Is Kevin Hart as big of a star as Eddie Murphy was in the 80's?

Kevin has the financial success but he's never been on THAT level.

Eddie was considered an elite comedian AND solid actor. Kevin is a highly successful comedian but no one ever mentions him among the greats. As an actor, I feel like he could actually have range but he needs a movie that shows it off. Kev tends to avoid anything too heavy.

Eddie in "Dreamgirls" >>>>>>>>>>> anything Kev has done on the big screen.

I don't think people in here are being objective as far as the difference between fame and talent. Talent of course Eddie>>>>>>>>
but Kevin Hart is just as famous as Eddie, probably more famous given the social media era we are currently in.
however since his body of work is forgettable in comparison, i have a feeling 20 years from now Eddie will still be well known as he is now while Kevin Hart will fade from relevance and be closer to Chris Tucker status. Remember when Chris was the most successful and popular comedian during the rush hour era? Thats Kevin Hart now. Whoopi Goldberg had a moment when she was on top too,
Eddie's reign on top though was timeless. thats the difference. Kids growing up today can still watch his old movies and become fans.

Eddie was way bigger than Kevin in the 80’s &90’s Eddie was like the Michael Jackson of comedy.

Kevin Hart was the first comedian to sell out an entire NFL stadium. He has 2 of ten highest selling comedy specials ever. His movies have afforded him a net worth is that literally already the same as eddie who had a like a 20 year headstart. There is no argument to be made that Eddie is was wayyyyy bigger than Kevin Hart. They are at least on par.

But thats not the point. like i said Eddie's popularity is not an of the moment thing. he wasn't just popular, he was also timeless, comedians like Chris Tucker and Kevin Hart will come and go, but Eddie is still going to be popular.

I was listening to Neal Brennan on TBC and he stated why Kevin does the type of movies he does and explained why Eddie usually does the movies he does. Apparently Eddie makes way more doing a Dr. Dolittle 6 than doing a Dreamgirls.

He also stated that Kevin likes doing movies he knows will be heavy promoted overseas.

Maybe the reason why the stars of today aren’t seen as big as the stars of yesterday is because it’s cool to hate celebrities now and the hate is displayed all over the internet and pushed to our faces

It’s hard to compare eras but you’d have to convince me that Hart could do what he’s doing without social media and streaming. Isn’t social a big part of Kevin Hart’s celebrity? Eddie had tv and word of mouth.

Social media has killed the allure of being a celebrity as they are more easily accessible now. It brings you in more revenue, but at the cost of publicly displaying every aspect of your life for public consumption and criticism.

I think this boils down to a debate I had a few yrs back which is: being well known vs level of fame.

yeah if the stars of yesterday, came out today, they would go thru it too. Celebrities used to seem flawless.

Now we know Beyoncé had bad breath once.

Britney Spears is the perfect example. She has always had issues, yet her team and the lack of social media allowed them to hide it all this years. Now the allure about her is all gone and her flaws are open for public consumption.
