A lot of Black song writers and producers are making bank off K pop. K pop companies have no issues hiring American song writers and producers. That's why their sound is becoming more and more westernized. And black people not even getting paid off of it.
But we could just do the same right?
Wu tang is all we got
K-Pop is warped because it’s cultural appropriation distilled from cultural appropriation. It’s a super-stepped-on cocaine version of saccharine minstrelsy. That said, I’ve encountered a striking number of black folks in their late 20s who go to K-Pop shows. Imagine mainstream American culture b*stardizing your contributions and shytting them out its a$$hole and another country’s culture eating that shyt and then shytting out an even more watery pile of that culture, and then your grandchildren eating a plate of it with smiles on their faces.
I’ve seen the discourse, everyone who’s not Black American claims that culture is meant to be shared and that they should be gratefulI can’t wait until koreans make K AFRO music and basically take Nigerian culture.
If they’re bold enough to try it. I’d be interested to see if it works.
