Hell no

Breh

She's Gotta Have It
School Daze
Do The Right Thing
Mo' Better Blues (EXTREMELY OVERLOOKED)
Jungle Fever
Malcolm X
Crooklyn (Finally getting the love it deserves)
Clockers

Back-to-back for the brehs and young who were unaware

That's almost a decade of hit films. No diss to Coogler at all, but in no way.
All of them have memorable moments and important points to make, the problem is the narratives and character arcs are choppy. In my opinion his technically best movie was Inside Man.
Coogler has been fortunate enough to have the corporate backing after Fruitvale and has had the budgets. The right question is what could Spike have done with similar financing?
Personally I find Coogler the better storyteller and visual artist.

Downplaying X to big up Judas and Black Messiah is nasty work :scusthov:

That jitterbug part was always my grandmothers favorite part so you saying that it shoulda been left out really stands out to me.

Both movies were historically inaccurate because you should already know the Hollywood game has to be played, Spike even spoke about that

But opinions aside....X had a way bigger cultural impact over J&BM. X literally brought the popularity of the NOI back to the forefront and created a new wave of interest towards Malcolm. Minister Farrakhan himself had a surgency in popularity immediately after that movie took off. J&BM literally went under the radar in terms of cultural impact. There was no serge in interest towards the Black Panthers after that movie dropped. Black Panther(Marvel) and Creed on the other hand had cultural impact. J&BM bombed at the box office while X made over double it's budget money back. The X hats and the X shirts were a staple during the promo run. Look at the top NBA players caught up in the wave. J&BM didn't have that.

And I'm not doing like you are, downplaying one to big up the other. Like I said, Black Panther and Creed are culturally iconic but when you put J&BM next to X, it doesn't have the same cultural impact. And those are the facts, not my opinion.

Coogler didnt write or direct that so I was wrong. Coogler only produced it and had creative input.

And your grandmother had nostaliga swaying her. Whats your excuse for enjoying that waste of time? Where was Malcoms sister Ella in the film? Dont tell me Hollywood told Spike they needed his bad acting, and to see him doing the Lindy Hop in the film:martin:

We could really get into a discussion of misogyny, but lets not go there. Her ommission is GLARING in the film. For some random white woman and Spikes character to get more screen time:snoop:?

I give him credit for having Malcolms family in the actual movie though. Then dont tell me Hollywood told him not to include Farakhan who was a big deal at the time. Farakhan allegedly told him not to,and he caved and made rewrites to the script.

Judas and the Black Messiah is better than all of Cooglers films. I haven't seen sinners yet.

No because both their film styles are vastly different.

Jordan Pelle is much more comparable to Spike

Not saying any one of them are trash, just comparing their filming styles

I remember Amiri Baraka killed Spike for his depiction of Malcolm X. More importantly the pivotal moments in Malcolm’s life that he left out and half the movies focus on his life as a pimp and hustler. Nostalgia aside, X was a very uneven film.
