There are very few great actors and there are many mediocre actors who chose the right role and got lucky. It's no surprise that they could never repeat that Oscar-winning success.

it's cause you get way more opportunity and money thrown at you afterwards, while the oscar is usually given to obscure indy films
so for most the people you name... they wasn't doing blockbusters and hits to get oscars... they might have been in them, but the ones that won it, was smaller indy shyt
now you get an oscar... you used to get 10 scripts a year to try out.... now you get 50.. everybody wants "oscar winning....." in their sales pitch for their movie.. now you was getting 5 milly a film.... now you getting 8-10.. now you getting more interviews.. more press.. MORE EXPECTATIONS
problem is, you got the same amount of time.. so can't possibly be reading those 50 scripts and picking the good ones.. so where you used to carefully select a movie, now you just hear "well such and such is in it and him and them is directing and YOU'LL BE THE STAR AND THEY PAYING 15 MILLY" and then you showing up in catwoman and shyt
same reason in music for the sophomore jinx... first album was the shyt.. everything came with it... less time to actually focus and work... second album is full of star features and production but it's a complete shyt show

Some of the people named ended up getting nominated again or have done some real good flicks since they won. Adrien Brody is a very picky actor. He could have done so many movies, but he literally enjoys his life traveling, doing his hobbies and for the most part, working when he feels like it.
