I'd rather not be without my facts.

Would you want to know the day and time of your death? Spin: would you want to know when a loved one would die? Would you REALLY :usure: want to know about cheating?

I know there are many more scenarios...
Living without the responsibility of morality is bliss for many. Knowing that your behavior destroys yourself and many times others puts the ball in your court to carry on and say ME ME ME. Some people cant live with that, so in retrospect found bliss in their ignorance. Before knowing cigarettes cause cancer and second hand smoke leads to medical problems, smokers in their ignorance, had bliss. Lets not play dumb for the sake of our own selfishness, friends. The truth should always come first.

I want now to tell you, gentlemen, whether you care to hear it or not, why I could not even become an insect. I tell you solemnly, that I have many times tried to become an insect. But I was not equal even to that. I swear, gentlemen, that to be too conscious is an illness--a real thorough-going illness. For man's everyday needs, it would have been quite enough to have the ordinary human consciousness, that is, half or a quarter of the amount which falls to the lot of a cultivated man of our unhappy nineteenth century, especially one who has the fatal ill-luck to inhabit Petersburg, the most theoretical and intentional town on the whole terrestrial globe.

Yes it is...

When I was a Christian, and in blissful ignorance about good and evil, heaven and hell...I was much happier...

I went to university to study biochemistry, and it opened my mind to deeper logical reasoning, and I have been RUINED ever since...

Since I lost my religion, I have lost so many relationships with friends and family...I don't value anybody who doesn't help me in a material/physical way...

I have lost the passion to live...I don't see what's the point if we all die alone in the end...

I wish I could crawl back into the Matrix...

Hmmm.... I was raised in a very Christian family, and I actually find comfort in the fact that I can question everything that I was ever taught. I was able to let go of what was ingrained, and really think for myself and appreciate others opinions, beliefs, etc, even if I don't share the same. To me, it's a very liberating feeling. Like you, unfortunately, my family and some friends don't agree with this, so we clearly will never see eye to eye. Don't lose the passion... embrace your knowledge. You obviously did it for a reason

well i never heard anyone saying this motto in real life just to get followers and stay in ignorance

Nah I understand that, but it's implied in many ways: Catholicism, right-wing politics (that's why they take the anti-"elite" stance and pride themselves on being "simple" people, while having studied themselves), in general political authorities are often at odds with education...same goes with crazies (all over the world) who are/were against women getting education...the more you keep people uneducated/ignorant, the easier they are to manipulate.

Agreed. I've heard it outloud mostly in jest- like, :ehh:

It most def is implied a lot though like you said. No one wants to say it out loud and call themselves out in a real situation.
