Hate to break this to you but most Scottish people only identify as Scottish, not British. If you refer to some Scots as British they actually get offended, and a decent chunk of the country voted to be independent from the UK.

As far as your Olympics comment....they are identified as Scottish first and foremost regardless of their team affiliation. Not to mention Scotland has been campaigning to enter the Olympics as an independent for years:
