Been a lifelong Goodfellas fan and then just after that, Casino.

However, with age and knowledge it’s become harder and harder over the years to rationalize the necessity for the “n!qqer” parts they say in the script.
Italians are notoriously racist against blacks. It wouldn’t be authentic if that dynamic was shown in a mob movie

Easily. I bought the remastered version on prime :blessed:. The movie is a roller coaster ride it has everything. And jo Pesci and di Nero murdered their roles. And casino is right behind it.
So many classic scenes.

My favorite is Casino for three reasons:

1. It's a technical marvel: production design, costuming, cinematography and lighting. It's almost dreamlike, and really makes 1970s Vegas look like some lost golden age.
2. Storywise, I thought that it was more of a Shakespearean tragedy than anything else, which gave it more of a plot than Goodfellas. Ace, the "hero", brought down by his fatal flaw: his obsession with controlling the uncontrollable.
3. Finally, Pesci. While Pesci is at most a supporting actor in Goodfellas, an adjunct to the Liotta/De Niro dynamic, he is every bit De Niro's equal in Casino. It's a testament to his talent that his performance never becomes grating, and always remains interesting.

Casino is just an overall more entertaining film than Goodfellas. The last act of Goodfellas is a chore to get through.

This I agree with; the May 11, 1980 scene is the high point of the film, and everything after that kind of seems like an afterthought.
