Kid is nice but he still has a long way to go....if he grinds and works hard can be a good player.

He’s in a tough spot. The Cavs already have a guy that puts up a ton of shots in Mitchell, Garland calls his own number a bunch at PG, they just gave Strus like 70 million dollars so they’re gonna play him… they also have Levert, Niang, Okoro…. Bates is gonna have to get used to coming off the bench and contributing with limited shots plus play NBA level defense.

They should probably stash him in the G League this year. I did like what I saw from him in terms of competing defensively in the SL

Yea realistically he’s not getting a real shot for at least 2-3 more years. He’s in the same position as Brandon Boston jr down to the tee. It’s going to really test his mental toughness. He just needs to dominate the G league so bad that they eventually get forced to play him.

If Emoni keeps showing even a fraction of what he has on defense during Summer League while he's in the G League, he'll be in the Cavs rotation expeditiously...Okoro is buns and is fighting for his career, the Cavs are dying to replace him with any kind of reliable scoring. LeVert floats between backup 1-3, he's not always going to overlap with Emoni's potential minutes. I've seen enough to think Emoni is probably starting at the 3 next year and going forward.

This kid gets an ungodly amount of hate on reddit/NBA Twitter for a 2nd round guy playing in Summer League :dahell:

bates is talented and has more to his game then I realized. But he needs at least a year to properly gain weight & develop his game. He’s only 19 so let’s see if the Cavs can work their magic on him like they did others so far.
