He needs to go to a school where they will develop him with better fundamental and he can make a run to be drafted in 2024. Basically take two seasons to retool, get stronger, and get the stench of this season off of him.

Memphis is about to get nuked by the NCAA so this isn't surprising at all...the surprising aspect is him potentially staying in school.

Bates and his father didn't envision this scenario of him staying a 2nd year in college 2 years ago.
Well they knew he wasn't gonna be eligible for the draft this year because of his age, so it was 2 years of college or a year then the g league. What they didn't expect was for him to be so ill prepared for the next level, regardless of which it was. And his father really has noone to blame but himself since he controlled his development and decision making up to this point, including that horrible school decision. Bag fumbling 101 is probably the main course taught at the future Bates University.

You’re probably right but I’d point out that getting drafted high isn’t about talent it’s about potential. So it’s all a marketing con. Make your package look as good as possible

So while it’d be nice to get better as a player, the #1 job is to trick these folk into getting drafted high and getting your bread. That gives you your first deal and, bc dudes come in the league so young, will likely be enough to get you a 2nd deal based on potential also. You can be 7,8 years into the league before they realize you not that good.

And that’s why with all the options out there I wouldn’t go to college if I’m a top 5ish prospect. At that point it’s a foregone conclusion I’m league, so there’s nothing but downside going to college. You can be exposed and tank your draft spot/money a la Trevon duval, Vernon Carey, Bol Bol. G league or overseas cats seem to maintain their draft value every time (Ie Brandon Jennings, thon maker, Jalen green, Kuminga)

Lavar also has son’s who are highly talented/skilled & have an advantage at they position

Bates pops working with limited tools to begin with

basically.

Emoni is in that Bronny/Mikey/Shareef BallIsLife side of the game that is mostly perception and social media trickery. Real talk, I’d rather barely put up with Julian Newman’s bullshyt because at least you know what his ceiling is.

None of these dudes I mentioned are remotely close to Melo at the same age in high school and Bol Bol is literally the apex of what these cats can expect to be. Sucks to say but that’s where we are when high numbers of IG followers and well edited YouTube vids is the the barometer for who is gonna “make” the league.

These dudes is fools gold
