Is Emoni Bates An All Time Bust?

theres some other shyt that I’m not that familiar with the details, but it’s something to the affect of: dad pulled Bates out of HS and forms Ypsi Prep to essentially be the Emoni Bates show, teammate Jaden Akins (now a freshman at MSU) had some issues with the entire teams goal to be to highlight Bates over winning, and over developing abilities of teammates…Akins gets thrown off the team.

Ypsi prep was playing really weak competition and Bates was putting up 35+ Shots per game on really awful percentages. So his development completely stagnated last year.

instead of signing up to they for a coach or D-League where Bates will get realistic coaching and development, he bag chased the short term paper to Memphis.

then NIL rules come out and Bates says I wanna go back to MSU but no one from MSU reached back out to him.

there’s a Twitter back n forth from this weekend where some MSU fan says “you’d be flourishing at MSU” and Bates responds “ask Izzo why I didn’t come” and then says “there was no money coming my way (from Izzo/MSU)”. Short term bag chasing…

I don’t think Penny has any top 150 guys for 2022, a lot of his big time gets have transferred. Prospects are realizing Penny isn’t developing talent.

seems to me that Bates wanted to be at MSU the entire time but chased short term bags bc of his dad. Then once NIL came into the picture he “reopened his recruitment” and was salty that MSU didn’t reoffer him.

bates wasn’t even Mr. Michigan Basketball last year…(maybe that’s reserved for only seniors?)

Yeah I think it’s a wrap for Penny, esp after that shyt show in the press. Dude bricking on Green, Greg Brown, Kuminga, basically all the top dogs the recruiting class after Weisman’s shoulda been indicative of something

On some real shyt, I don’t think it’s that bad to do a bid as an asst coach under a legit coach and then take that HC spot. IIRC, Penny came straight from HS to Memphis. Breh shoulda at least tried at a lower level Southern school and learned the ugly parts of the game first. I hear Cal and Barnes be killing that dude’s rep behind the scenes

I think it's better for him to be humbled now than in the league. I'm optimistic that he'll tighten up for NCAA year 2
