Prodigy was never a better rapper than Pac.
Pac in my Top 5 but mid 90s Prodigy was leagues better as a rapper. If he didn't fall off lyrically he would definitely be in my Top 5. As is, with the fall off, he's in my Top 10.
Prodigy was never a better rapper than Pac.
Nah you right, other poster was right too, i blended the lines from 'In the long run' in my mind into 'Drop a gem on em'.Can you quote the lines from Drop A Gem about Bishop and Juice?
It was a number of rappers that dissed Pac after he died? Who?It was a number of rappers that dissed him after the fact.. And that lil bit of talkin was better than that whole song minus the beat
Too subliminal for my tastes![]()
It wasn’t subliminal or indirect. The only accurate point you could make is that the word “Tupac” isn’t said in the song. Although Havoc does call him “Tu-not” right before saying he got raped.fukk a indirect diss especially when the person you are dissing is straight up calling you out.
Mobb Deep “Drop a gem on em”
Pac “Drop a gem on who? You bytch ass nikkas!”
Mobb Deep “em”
Wait. Are you saying Long Kiss was clearly about Pac? Or Drop A Gem was clearly about Pac?I'm willing to bet that you didn't know that was Pac diss back then when you heard this song until you found out later after Pac gone. This song didn't have impact as a diss track. This isn't in top 20 diss track. Dope song yes but a goat diss track where it didn't have impact so no. Especially they didn't call out in Pac's name. Almost similar to Biggie's Long Kiss Goodnight song but clearly they can tell who he was talking about......Long Kiss Goodnight isn't even in top 20 diss song unless you said his name.
I love Mobb Deep but Mobb Deep had mewhen to come to diss songs when DPG and Snoop Dogg dropped NY NY song and they did the video in NY while CNN and Mobb Deep didn't do the video in LA with their song, called "LA LA" that made them look weak in my eyes.
So again. Are we talking about a rap battle? Or an energetic shyt talking contest? The sad part is that Pac outrange talking at the ending outro in Hit'Em UP had more memrobale than Drop A Gm On Em song on itself.
"Oh yeah, Mobb Deep, you wanna fukk with us?
You little young-ass motherfukkers
Don't one of you nikkaz got sickle cell or somethin?
You fukkin with me nikka you fukk around
and have a seizure or a heart-attack
You better back the fukk up, 'fore you get smacked the fukk up"
The way Pac talking like you actually believe in him on some"That nikka is serious, ain't fukk around for real"
There was no battle.
Pac gave them 4 lines total, their whole life - it didn't matter what they had to say back.
Pac getting killed my have saved their careers/lives...
I'm convinced had Pac never died this beef would have been the #1 hip-hop story of '96.
Undeniable top 5 diss track. P spazzed out on this fukking track.
"Get chopped up Grade-A meat somethin' delicious
And laced back up 2 Gs worth of stitches
To reconstruct your face and learn how to speak again
My Mobb like a bunch of wild Puerto Ricans
With bangers the size of African spears"

Verse was not fire.
Pacs RANT at the end of hit um up > any other diss track in history.
I remember reading about it in the Source. I may be misremembering, but I think it was before the album even dropped.
Who in the fukk didn't know they were talking about Pac in this song??
"Think fast or get reminded of robberies in Manhattan"
"Who shot ya? You probably screamed louder than an Opera, New York got ya"
Shyt was so blatant and obvious they had boiling beef after Drop A Gem hit the airwaves that when I first heard Pac got shot out in Vegas on the radio, I mistakenly thought they said he was shot while driving through Queens. I even told my brother that, thinking that the beef had escalated off wax and some QB nikkas got the drop on him. It wasn't until hours later when I heard other reports that the confusion got cleared up.
Look, I fukks with Pac too. But your Pac stannery has to be on levels that can't even be described to claim that he won a battle against Mobb Deep......when he never recorded a single verse aimed at either one of them. Yelling out "Fukk Mobb Deep!!" doesn't count as a diss track.
I definitely understand that argument. But the way I see it, it takes a certain level of skill to diss someone the way Prodigy did on Drop A Gem On Em without even using the persons name. “fukk 2pac” has a certain force to it for sure, but that’s not going to impress me as much as bars.Nah I def knew. But play it for a casual and they wouldn’t unless I told them. That’s not the mark of the best diss of all time bro. I love the track tho. I’m just sayin.
I can see this argument only if they tried to deny that they were dissing Pac. But they gave interviews about it and leaked it to mixtape DJs as their response to Pac.I mean...even the lines... didn't seem all that focused.
Something llike Dre's verse on Dre day dissing Eazy or Second Round ko doesn't name names but every line is squarely focused, simple and lucid.
Also just because EVERYONE knows that a song is about someone doesn't mean it isn't weak to refuse to mention a name. Look at Dig a hole or Roman's revenge.
