People will always say Hit ‘Em Up was way better and also one of the best dis records of all time, but I disagree. I do like Pac’s record (that features some dudes I don’t care for and neither do you), but overall it’s just a straightforward track written by a dude suffering from manic depression. It sounds like something I would’ve written when I was dissing a former friend in 10th grade. Very childish. But the beat rip, etc, will always make it a major part of hip hop lore.

my top 5 off the top

Drop A Gem On Em
Ether
No Vaseline
Real Muthafukkin Gz
Dollaz And Sense

and It’s not a Mobb vs Pac thing for me, I love both, always did but Hit Em Up just ain’t it:manny:

shyt wouldve had zero effect regardless if Pac was alive or not. Dope track but after hitem up shyt needed to be equally as potent and this wasnt it. Pac was too hard and raw at the top of his game for that lil shyt to hurt him.

hit'em up is the most popular from back in the day, but "back to back" is the most mainstream diss track of all-time, unfortunately.

The industry feared Suge and MOB, that's indisputable. But Tupac Shakur? Not even close, he was an entertainer/actor and the epitome of a charismatic rapper/wanna be thug. People were drawn to PAC because he was charismatic, nobody feared him though, he shot himself in the balls, got robbed and got raped on Rikers Island after being extorted by Brooklyn gangsters.

Mobb Deep would have been fine everywhere aside from Los Angeles, their team 'Infamous' had some strong and feared people 'Yammy, Killa Black, Kiko etc', it wasn't until the end of the millennia as they're crew waned (death, robberies etc) that they lost strength in the street.

I love the song, its a superhard track but not a great disstrack, would probably not make my top 20 of best diss songs. As already mentioned, nothing really scathing is said about Pac. But the beat is incredible (one of Havoc's best ones).
:mjtf:

[Hook: Havoc]
It's the infamous back in the house once again
Live the life that of diamonds and guns and now gems
Pull gats like a basehead pull on stems
The Mobb got the bomb, run out and tell a friend
Drop a gem on 'em!

[Interlude]
Some rain got to fall, some rain got to fall
Some rain got to fall, some rain got to fall

[Verse 1: Havoc]
Know what I mean? Drop a gem on 'em
Sick and tired, ugly fake crooks need to retire
They got you gassed, take a match and smack fire out ya
Maggot ass, Havoc represent for the Q-B-C
Smoke that ass like a loosie
Though I need to quit, fukk it, I love it like a cloud
Over the projects, your game I'm above it
It's combat, gats, bangers and all that
You's a small cat, whatever you on get off that
I mention, nothin' but the real shyt presentin'
The hollow-tip crew, 41st side convention

Stride full, you half-steppin'
Like a fresh TEC out of the box yo, nikkas I'm testin'
That's no question, bytch-ass have you confessin'
Like a DT, left in state of depression
You under pressure, in tag no doubt catcher
The snitch-snatcher, shooken with asthma, you casper
You yell my name, that's only givin' me props
Plus the fans that you got wonderin' what's got you hot
It's Tu-Not, knocked out the box and got rocked
Got raped on the Island, you officially got
Kick that thug shyt, Vibe magazine on some love shyt
Keep it real, kid, 'cause you don't know who you fukkin' with

[Verse 2: Prodigy]
Drop a gem on 'em son, you know I got jewels, infamous son
Yeah, likewise I'm tired of rap guys that's fakkits
Your P'll shut eyes and swole up your whole outside
I baptize, nikkas get wet, hit up your backside
Get claptized and set straight, put on your head straight

Watch out for these upstate cats
Be leary of New Yiddy nikkas with gats, with the wall on they back
Rikers Island flashbacks of the house you got scufted in
You would think that gettin' your head shot's enough but then

Now you wanna go at my team
Must have been drunk when you wrote that shyt
Too bad you had to did it to your own self
My rebellion, retaliate, I had the whole New York state
Aimin' at your face at the gate
Bottom line off top soon as you came through
Shots flew, don't even know the half of my crew
I got a hundred strong-arm nikkas ready to rock your shyt
Clocks tick, your days are numbered in low digits
You look suspicious, suspect nikkas is bytches
Get chopped up, Grade A meat, somethin' delicious
And laced back up, two G's worth of stitches
To reconstruct your face and learn how to speak again
My mob's like a bunch of wild Puerto Ricans
With bangers the size of African spears, it's warfare
In the arena, we turn arenas into house of horrors
It's terrordome when you see my clique
You need to run behind shyt
You got a gat, you better find it
And use that shyt, think fast and get reminded
Of robberies in Manhattan, you know what happened
Sixty G's worth of gun clappin'
Who shot ya? You probably screamed louder than a opera
New York got ya, now you wanna use my mob as a crutch
What you think, you can't get bucked again? Once again—

When I ride on my enemies by Tupac completely would have ended mobb deeps careers if pac was alive. That shyt was hard af.
Now we are getting into what if territory.
What happens if Drop A Gem On Em continues as the single with a video?
What happens if Mobb responds to When I Ride?
Does Biggie diss Pac?
Etc.

They also want to conveniently omit that Mobb changed songs and the album out of respect for the dead. Like they didn't have worse lined up for him:childplease:

that being said pax’s aura charisma, rapping ability, & presence overshadows him it would be like the moon standing next to the sun.
