what am i coping out of, i have taken no position on the actual issue of gun control and i have no idea on whether his position is understandable and noble and i dont really care whether this issue is meaningful to chris rock, if that makes it a cop out, then i agree im coping out
but i think the logic he used is what the problem is, i respect his freedom to have his opinion on the subject but i dont have to respect his logic, and no i dont have to respect his terms, i dont know why you would think that
and yeah its definitely a semantic argument because different words referring to a person in charge have different connotations to it, and i disagree with the connotation of 'dad' and 'boss', you are the one that is actually copping out by ignoring the connotations, boss and dad does connotate obedience thats exactly why we object to it
other words for person's in charge are king, master, dictator, those types of words are not appropriate in referring to a president in a democracy or in making an argument pro or con

boss and dad, are the same type of shyt they said about Mao, Stalin, Lenin, and Hitler. if you dont see anything wrong with this you need to do some research on history. sadly chris rock is just happy that the presidents office has a black face.
but obama is in charge of the executive branch, in a democracy somebody is in charge

according to your logic there is nothing wrong with referring to obama as king, dictator or master, because those are all words that refer to leaders

Boss and Dad are certainly not interchangeable with Ruler, Master, dictator, or king. Thats absurd. It is not punishable by law to disobey or dismiss the requests of your boss or your father. Dismissing the orders of the latter category will result in severe consequences --- often death, no matter the nature of the order. We do not live under a dictatorship or a monarchy, so what exactly are you arguing here?
For someone that is so hung up on "connotation", you're not even bothering to quote Rock correctly. He said "kinda like" our mom and dad. He didnt even fully commit to the concept. He clearly was suggesting that our elected president carries a leadership authority which should command our attention, and further the dialogue --- and with that boss = leader... This king, dictator talk is ridiculous. Thats your own a priori biases coming to the fore.
I was a bit sympathetic to your guys' views, because the word choice wasnt ideal, but now Im of the opinion that you guys are just bat sht insane. i never once suggested connotation doesnt matter, and Rock didnt come close to suggesting what you guys are saying. Your interpretations are ridiculous.

Can someone check to see if Chris Rock supported George Bush's decision to invade Iraq? I doubt you'll find many of these people who are goose stepping for Obama, fell in line during Bush's presidency. I also want to say that we are Obama's boss. We elected him, actually I didn't since I didn't vote for him. This type of thinking where the executive is the boss, and the populace is just suppossed to follow orders leads to all sorts of troubles.

i simply brought up king, master and dictator to point out the flaw in your reasoning, i totally agree that boss and dad are not interchangeable with king, master and dictator, and following that logic i dont agree that boss and dad are interchangeable with president
so my argument is logically sound, you argument is logically shifty, you seem to arbitrarily want to conflate nouns that refer to leaders in one case (dad, boss) but then are outraged at other words that denote leadership (master, king, dictator)
the word 'kinda' simply makes his statement a simile, it doesn't actually reject the concept of the president as your boss or dad, its accentuating it
i understand what chris rock meant, but the words he chose were wrong, and it was a stupid choice of words, the president is not your boss or your dad and he should never be referred to as such, the concept of the president in the constitution specifically rejects the authoritarian connotations attached to words such as boss and dad, just as much as it rejects the connotations of king, master or dictator
are we still debating something a comedian said?
