This is an interesting topic because I felt in real time that it was well received album when it came out (The anticipation of BG) but it was not on the same tier production wise/creative wise as 400 degrees. Subject matter on this album was very one-dimensional which is expected by BG.
I say that now in today's time, going back to each album. 400 degrees laps this album but in real time by B.G. being who he was to the label and to the city of NOLA, I don't think folks made that comparison of the two albums, at least out in public.
Thus why this thread is an interesting topic that I somewhat agree with. To the masses, and for me, it does have that energy that this album is overlooked or could be overlooked in today's climate. I wouldn't be mad at that statement, being that it's said in 2022 and seeing what has transpired from the album standpoint and the trajectory of the album.
That album had to be re-done, it was so gutter and grimy that Slim had to take some songs off and really format the album so that it could appeal somewhat to the masses. It's still some head-bussing, street shyt on the album which is 98% of the content of the album, which is why I say (today) it can be considered to be an overlooked album because 400 degrees was so huge at the time and is still considered CMR best album to be released by some.
Bling Bling, the single and video helped this album a lot to where it appealed to the masses somewhat in real time, like I said, to me in 2022, I'm not mad at the statement by this album being overlooked. I still bump this album, I think the production was a solid B plus on this album.
