any film buffs want to explain to me why films like 120 Days of Sodom are defended or even praised?

legit curious, i've never done any film analysis or anything, but i understand that there has to be some sort of reasoning behind it, right?

It's very uncomfortable to watch, but 120 Days Of Sodom was directed by one of the italian greats and is more relevant than a lot of other "shock" movies (compare some of the movie's images to the Abu Ghraib torture stuff for example).

I don't need to see it again, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as try hard films like A Serbian Film. It's more like one of those controversial movies by a good/great, well known director, like A Clockwork Orange.

I don't think I've ever been so depressed after viewing a film.
