I am going to be real with ya'll, at the end of the game, I felt the MLS title was a better feeling than this WS title.
I felt that the United had the bug on their back of being cursed due to being an Atlanta/GA squad. I felt that they had to overcome that. But after about two hours, it just felt like another day. Like, the Chicago Sky winning the title. In the moment, wow but after a couple of hours, it wore off.
After a couple of hours, I broke down in tears. Here's the thing, when we won in 95, I didn't make a big deal of it. I treated it like just winning a little league title. We are the best team, we are suppose to win. I thought we would win like the 49ers and the Bulls. I didn't realize, this was it.
The 2000s was made disappointing, we had the bats, not the pitching outside of Smoltzy as a closer. We get the new generation, McCann and the face of the generation, Jeff Francoeur. Frenchy came out like gangbusters. Once pitchers figured him out, he became washed easily. While McCann lived up to potential, the era ended on a sober note. We ended with nikkas like Aaron Boone, Nate McClouth, and Ryan Church. The Braves was rebuilding again. Then we draft the next generation as well as sign guys like Andrelton Simmons. This generation includes studs like Julio Teharan, Mike Minor, Craig Kimbrel, Tommy Hansen, Freddie Freeman and the face of the new generation, Jason Hayward. This class had so many #1 overall prospects and we had the #1 farm system in baseball. We tried everything to build around this talent, traded for both Uptons. Sign pitchers. Traded for Texeria in a stupid ass trade. This era ended in disappointment which lead to the Frank Wren era
Frank blew it up, everyone outside of Freeman was available. He wanted to rebuild like the Astros who was our model franchise. We also wanted players who weren't close at all to the majors. What it did was hurt us in terms of short term but it meant we can get better value as well. We traded Shelby Miller for Swanson. We traded a scrub for Touki. We were building the top farm system in Baseball but boy did we suffer. Three years of last place Baseball. I remember watching AA ball thinking they could give the major league team a run and I remember everyone in Braves nation cared about was Rome, Mryele Beach, Florida, etc.
The next generation didn't have the fanfare of the others but not as hyped. Albies had more hype than all but he wasn't consistent. Swanson had hype but we knew he wasn't it. Acuna started to really kill in Rome, from that point on, we realize we could be really good. These guys were all coming up together and they were having suppose with the pitchers and hitters unlike previous gens. We just keep making good signings. After 2 hours after the WS, I was in tears. Go Braves!
