Intelligent people realize this Joker movie ISN'T a comic book movie at all.

If we're in agreement that Joker doesn't have a tangible origin story than how the fukk does this origin story somehow do a disservice to the comics?

I keep reading shyt that this movie isn't faithful to the comics and I'm scratching my head because in this history of comic books damn near every character has different continuations with varying origin stories. How is this any different?
The director said it’s not picking from comic books and fanboys ran with it. There ya go

I understand what OP is saying. In the case of comic books though, its all fictional, so they have the freedom to take whatever liberties they want to with it. Characters in Marvel Universe now have been changed from the comics I read growing up for the sake of films.

Bullshyt! How is this a goofy trailer :mjpls:

maybe goofy's too strong of a word but you can't deny they're spinning it as a more light hearted comedy, than what it truly is. They put cheery ass music in the trailer during most of the scenes, and downplay Chip's stalkerisms, and make it seem more child-like love over crazy ass single white female shyt.

JOKER: Joaquin Phoenix Objected To Thomas Wayne Being Included In The DC Comics Adaptation

It's pretty obvious that Joker isn't going to be sticking to the source material, as it's a totally original take on the Clown Prince of Crime's origin story which doesn't appear to be borrowing all that much from the comic books.

Now, though, director Todd Phillips has revealed that star Joaquin Phoenix really wasn't on board with any references to the world of Batman! "[Joaquin] never liked saying the name Thomas Wayne," the filmmaker explains. "It would have been easier for him if the movie was called ‘Arthur’ and had nothing to do with any of that stuff. But in the long run, I think he got it and appreciated it."

Without any links at all to the wider DC Universe, this really would have just been a Joker movie in name only! As we noted earlier today, Phoenix and Phillips also butted heads over the actor's weight, and while they agreed that the actor needed to change his appearance, the star was reluctant to slim down for yet another movie role.

"It’s a horrible way to live," Phoenix says. "I think [Arthur] should be kind of heavy. Todd was like, ‘I think you should do the real thin person.’" Ultimately, he gave in to the filmmaker's vision and lost a whopping 52lbs to play this version of the Harlequin of Hate!

They are trying to steer away from calling it a comic book movie, because they know full well it will lack the excitement and action that fans of comic book movies enjoy. This shyt will basically be horrible ass Gotham(tv show) in a movie:snoop:. Watching Batmans origin without him actually doing Batman shyt isn't really a Batman movie, which is what I think this Joker movie will be. If there is actually some action in the movie, the trailer shows no such thing. They are preparing fans up for a huge dissapointment, because they know many just won't get it and will go in expecting a comic book movie.
