Thank you for informing me about this thread. Just reminded there's a lot that still needs to be within the black community.

And I most do my part to help uplift those disadvantaged as well.

:smh: @ me just getting content with middle class suburbia life...

The only thing I hate is how much they push this "college is the only way" agenda.. A school like this can really benefit from programs and curriculums centered on trades.

no it wouldn't, it would benefit from a college oriented curriculum

if i heard right the school only has 400 students so i think it would be a good idea to close the school and reopen it as one that focuses on trade and have school choice so that people can go to that school as an option, i think that would be cool, but the bulk of black people need to focus on college and go to high schools that focus on college oriented curriculum

What good is forcing a liberal arts college curriculum on students who arent interested in college right out of high school? Most of those kids arent interested in college so forcing a college curriculum down their throats is what contributes to the careless attitude that many of those students have. However, you give them a curriculum centered on a trade and im almost certain most of those behavioral problems wouldnt occur since they will be learning something that they are interested in and they could use those skills ASAP to make money and support their families.

I do agree with your point of closing the school down and opening it back up as a dual curriculum type of school where they can choose a liberal arts path or trade path.. However with this bull shyt standard testing that Bush and Obama has pushed, it will never happen. Curriculums in trades cost much more to maintain than the traditional liberal arts paper and pencil curriculum, thus our children continue to suffer smh

It's almost like prison state.

Preparing these kids to be future criminals or something...

I mean, they had police officers with vest and guns, metal detectors, and cameras everywhere etc...

A typical school day focuses on discipline rather academics.

:dead: looking out for people with Vaseline on their face ready to start a fight, :wtf: :heh:

Black America's future leaders right here.

I'm not really understanding what the difference is between shoving a trade down somebody's throat and shoving liberal arts down somebody throat, when you go to school you will get something shoved down your throat regardless

What basis do you have for thinking a trade would be more suitable for these students?

Which is why i said I agree with students having a choice of picking one curriculum or the other... Doesnt seem like this school have that, am I wrong?

I don't know but I don't see why a trade curiculum would be better unless you are assuming these students can't handle a college curriculum or that it won't benefit them and it's an assumption that I would assert is part of the overall problem

The notion that black kids are bombarded by college is the only way, I would say is a lie, black kids are bombarded by messages that college is a waste of time

In this climate unless your a STEM major there really isnt much benefit to a liberal arts bachelors degree which is the curriculum that is the standard today in high schools. However, I know plenty of dudes making 50,000-70,000 right out of high school or a couple years after due to trades. Ive worked in a high school that was received a D or F 7 years in a row and from my experience most of the kids at the school wasnt interested in the liberal arts curriculum that was forced upon them. Couple that with the standardized testing and merit pay crap and you have a stew as to why overall minorities arent succeeding as a whole in this system.. The stats for black male graduation rates dont lie, im sure you know the numbers.

I know ny has always had trade high schools since I was a kid idk about elsewhere..

Socially I feel that college is important.
Also community colleges are trade schools.
Aren't all colleges trade schools?
