I think this is a classic case of when old heads won't let the past go.

Insecure is a classic show for this generation. It won't stand up to our classics, but it will be for the newer generation. It was a great show that was well written for it's genre.

However Black-ish was not. Black-ish seemed like it exists in the Insecure world as like running gag sitcom joke in the Insecure universe.

Replace Blackish with Abbott Elementary, or even South Side and I agree with you.

Insecure is a modern classic, and damn near pillar of modern black TV. I'm stunned when I think back on the fact they made a predominately black show in a city with more non-black people and whites making up the demo.

Props to Issa Rae.
It's a major city, every single city with a minimum of 650,000 residents is majority non-black 🤣 why would you be surprised that somewhere as rich in black history as Los Angeles could have black life like this? There's been predominantly black shows set in LA for 50+ years, going back to at least Sanford & Son...
I think "this is the GOAT era for black tv" wouldve been a better discussion / argument

Snowfall
Atlanta
etc
I like this argument too and you may be right! How many great black shows are of the modern era to justify that statement, though? Abbott, Atlanta, black•ish, Insecure, Snowfall, who else?
Insecure is AIIIIIGHTTTTT. I respected the vision and the talent, I always check for Issa and her projects but the show got mad boring past a certain point. And there is a distinct veneer of subtle black suburbanite corny shyt that she cannot wash off. Like Rap shyt was trying it's hardest to get around it but no luck.

Black-ish and it's spin offs are super duper mid for the similar reasons. Pointing these up as GOAT anything has to be due to lack of compeition. The best of what is being offered in this era I suppose.

I wouldn't put either over Atlanta, let alone the actual classics.
I tried to watch Atlanta, couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll try it again...

Well Insecure is a drama and the rest of those shows are sitcoms :mjtf:

Why would I look for realism from a sitcom :heh:

Family matters is a sitcom it’s not supposed to be taken serious :dead:

That’s like comparing Boy meets world and The Bear :mjlol:
This doesn't make any sense...

A Different World was a sitcom but was real...

Cosby Show was a sitcom but was real...

Girlfriends was a sitcom but was real...

Sanford & Son was a sitcom but was real...

Roc was a sitcom but was real...

Come on now lol...
I never seen black•ish

Insecure was the typical relationship shyt
Also Issa Rae is not a good actress

@murksiderock this!

I hate her portrayal of black people from Inglewood and south central

You can tell her ass never spent anytime around us
I think Issa is a great actress, she has a deadpan style that works. Her acting is basically her just being herself...

She grew up in Windsor Hills, which is 79% black itself and surrounded by black neighborhoods on all sides. She grew up around black people, bruh...

omg i just randomly watched episode 1 of insecure the other day lol
Keep watching! You ain't even hit it's peak yet, it gets better and better every episode. Probably hits it's absolute peak in Season 3...
Right.

We finna argue Insecure vs Snowfall?
Why would we need to argue them, they are different genres. And Snowfall's faced criticism for certain portrayals...
Neither beatin' A Different World, bet that.
They up there with it...

That's exactly what this is, re: the bolded...

Insecure was fantastically written and acted. I can think of a number of shows from past generations where the acting and writing was inferior. Plenty of em!

No
She was one of those “new blacks”
Who said herself she was “too black for white people and too white for black people”
