The rollout wasn’t great but the messaging around Obamacare(anti-unions, death panels, cost) were already underwater before it came out.

Remember the famous “I like Kentuckycare but not Obamacare” even though they were the same thing?
One of the reasons Obama and Dems took an L because he and his technocrats thought Americans would praise them for being super smart by delaying the benefit rollouts.

People need to feel the the benefits of something right away, not in five years.

People who weren’t already in favor of Obamacare weren’t going to be turned around by benefits.

I’m not sure how to explain this.

This wasn’t independents making their minds up after hearing a substantive debate.

The red states got redder cause the GOP has been poisoning their base for decades earlier.

The reason Trump and the GOP couldn’t get the ACA overturned is due to people liking the benefits after experiencing it.

I know what happened. I’m saying one of the reasons is down to that administration thinking they were smarter than they were.

Congress passed a middle class tax cut in Obama’s first term too. Joint was only $15-$30 during each pay period. Why not give people a big fat check of that tax cut all at once?

They also went too low on the stimulus.

There are a lot of things, but Obama didn’t lose the House just because of bad marketing.

The Tea Party formed cause Obama was elected. Not in response to failed or delayed Obamacare promises.

I’m sure how you think an extra 40 or 50 in a paycheck ( that’s socialism! And their money anyway!!) is going to subdue people who went on to elect and support Trump and Jan 6, but think this was a reasoned failure of logically failing to deliver on promises.

The failed rollout did them no favors to his less ardent supporters but the places they loss the most wasn’t in those soft support areas. It’s exactly where the Republicans furthered gerrymandered to solidify who was listening to their propaganda as being electable

I'm aware of this. And I am aware it was astroturfed.

That's not what I said. I said instead of breaking it down to $50 lesser in taxes each paycheck, why not give the tax break in a big lump sum? Sort of like the current family tax credit Biden is giving each month.

shyt, why not give a $100 check each month to people? Let people know what you did, instead of hiding what you did. Those are tangible things that you can tell people you did and it hits them right away. See what happens with that socialism talk when people are actually clocking money in their accounts. People love free money, and don't care what the ideology is.

I also never said it was the reason Obama and the Dems lost in 2010, I said its one of the reasons. They thought they were the smartest people in the room, and have always felt that way. They felt they were so smart that they didn't have to sell their smart plans and let people know. It didn't work.

Anyway, the point of this is to say that Biden and Co. need to get this bill through and let people know they did it.

They lost mainly because of racism.

Even if the Obamacare rollout went better the result would likely be the same. Obama simply being in office caused Dems to bleed white voters. That's just how America is. :yeshrug:

How does Obama win two terms as a president?

He's charismatic enough to get people to the polls when he's on the ballot, and Romney wasn't really fukking with the white grievance politics that drives his side to show up to polls.

Still doesn't change that Dems suffered a massive loss of power while Obama was in office, and not just because of Obamacare. There are plenty of studies showing that white voters got significantly more Republican over this period.

I think it was because the Dems are afraid of their own shadows, and that specific time they decided they were smarter than voters by not doing tangible things.

THere is a reason why they can't legislate out Obamacare.

I never deny racism in Obama not being a more successful president, but you have to admit that he and that time in power didn't do a good enough job themselves.

The Tea Party was formed during the Bush administration. It got media attention after Obama got elected.

Obama was able to get high turnout from unreliable black and young voters...but only when he was on the ballot.

But white voters were showing up to vote Dems out in pretty much every election from midterms down to local elections. Dems were losing lots of state and local elections that had nothing to do with Obamacare.

That said, I'm the first to admit he should've done more in that first two years, not pushing the public option through was a huge mistake. Dems also dropped the ball in 2010 on voter turnout. Part of the problem, and I complained about it at the time, was that Obama spent too much time trying to pander to Republicans who were going to hate him regardless. Didn't make him any more popular with them and just demotivated the Dem base instead.
