The fact that you are equating standards of women's rights in the year 2013 to the Victorian era is highly humorous.
I know also know enough about these religious and cultural norms to equate it strongly with this "it's her fault she gets raped" nonsense being spewed across the world, even here in America.
were Victorians not modern humans?? they were just a century ago, a seafaring apex world power who wrote most of the laws in most countries on this planet. Are you comparing the year 2013 to 1900 in terms of worldwide progress to women's rights?
Like I said, it doesn't matter to me about "Muslims" because as we have seen in India AND the United States, there exists people who still believe in this nonsense and they aren't all Muslim.
This shyt reeks of "we must protect women by putting them in cages" mentality because these people deny or are oblivious to basic biological, sexual and psychological progress and understanding made within the last 100 years or so.
a "100 years of progress" is a ridiculous qualifier. that's a blink of an eye in human terms. look at this thread and see what people are saying.
the situation in India is just beginning to creep out in international news because of the delhi incident. Every time I open my newspaper there's a crazy amount of misogynist violence being done by hindus, but you guys never hear of that

We have been discussing it nearly non-stop around here recently, just as we did when the American politicians made those asinine comments.
Requiring a woman to risk being injured on a motorcycle because the act of her sitting on the seat properly might be provocative is absolutely absurd and should be treated as such.

you've been discussing one incident out of dozens a week. because it came out in the international press. Meanwhile last year we used to have, like I said, 5 threads exactly like this every day focused just on muslims. Which lead to ignorance filled threads just like this thread. The fact that people have a different interpretation of your religion and texts that you don't agree with doesn't mean that religion is not to blame. Maybe your interpretation is not to blame, but it doesn't mean we can't criticize the interpretations of others as silly or dangerous.
If you were to ask those city officials, they would say there were being good Muslims and implementing this law as they see fit.

It came just after your point about criticizing religion. you're going further and further from the point I made, which is the plain ignorance of the posts in this thread and the fact that this is exactly what we had on our hands multiple times a day for months in the old KTL.
