It doesn't matter where Midway got their money. All that matters is Midway was paying the developers to make MK. At the time of the Skullgirls DLC campaign, Lab Zero was not getting any money from the publisher.
With this campaign they have to raise 1.5 million in order to get the rest of the money from their new publisher.
