Somalis in Kenyan territory were and are treated far worse

In colonial times they were treated better than other Africans because we was "Hamitic" and shyt according to cac theories on race.

Cacs thought we were closer to them racially.

Somalis in NFD (northern Kenya) are treated like crap by the Kenyan government and have been marginalized since Independence. This Shabaab phenomenon has only made things worse.

As a business community tho, Somalis in Nairobi are doing quite well. As for politics, Somali individuals have occupied some important positions within the government, but as a group, I don't think that they have managed to translate their wealth into political influence. Maybe @thatknickfan can correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there a West African presence in Nairobi? If so is it pretty much just Nigerians?

I think your summary is on point for most part.

The NEP is poor and ignored in the big scheme of national politics but its slightly improved since the new Constitution. The major Kenyan Somali clans have to be swayed during elections and whoever their political representatives happen to be, do often get cabinet positions etc. There's also a much smaller group of Kenyan Somalis who are descendants of colonial soldiers/traders. Anecdotally many of that group is doing well in Kenya ( the foreign minister's family is one of those people), as well as those businessmen you mentioned. As far as treatment goes I think the post civil war refugees get it the worst, with no ID cards etc but Kenya is far from the worst place for Somalis IMO.

I think despite all the things Kenya does poorly, you can still see bright spots that show its potential. It has a fast growing economy, free media, most educated population in its region, relatively free elections etc. For all the Government's abuses and graft, it still isn't half as authoritarian as its neighbours. It also is favourably located as far as global trade goes. Its not all doom and gloom.

Minister of Industry @Karbaash He used to be a Barclays executive before Kenyatta appointed him as one of his "professional" non-political cabinet members.

The backroom deal behind his appointment (how Kenyan politics always works)

Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow has revealed that prior to the general election, the Garre Council of Elders in Mandera sat with Uhuru and Ruto and agreed that they run under the Jubilee ticket and in return get the position of the CS should Uhuru win.
