na thats east side access, i work on the 2nd ave line from 63-96th, most of that is existing tunnel. this shyt is new compared to the 2nd ave tunnels which been dug for 20 years alreeady

I decided to search this last night. Everybody knows Chicago has an elevated train system. Instead of a subway, their trains run above ground, criss-crossing through the skyscrapers downtown.
Well, the thing is, they do have tunnels underground. People just dont know about it
Back in the early 20 century, they constructed over 62 miles of underground tunnels, 40 feet below the surface of the city to transport freight to different businesses. They had elevators to lift the freight cart from 40 feet below ground up into the basement level of all the businesses. 20 miles of track are still accessible but, the other 40 miles of track/tunnels have been sealed off
