Dudes online keep downplaying the importance of having positive interaction with the opposite sex. When someone feels out-casted and turned down by an entire gender it can destroy a person entire mental state. The longer it goes the worse it gets.

I'll bet more than a few people have tried to befriend him over the years - it looks like he could "play normal" from that video, and being a weaker type of dude he was probably extremely helpful to those around him.
