too many things to list: some of us believing its a boring game, money grab is quicker in every other sport, instant fame in other sports, MLBs lack of promoting it's African American players, field up keep in black vs white neighborhoods, the fact that it's going the way hockey where you're going to need serious amounts of money to compete against your peers at your talent level, etc...
It's a wack ass sport to watch and we don't like to be wack n shyt. Plus it seemed like you would get more p*ssy doing other things and for a pre/early teen young man - pus is a primary focus...
It's hard to really sit 9 innings as a black athlete and really not have a chance to show off your athletic talent. I played baseball for about 7 years.. I loved it... but Football was just magical. I was running back.. I touched the ball and got hit non stop.. every once in a while I would do something great and that made it all worth it. Baseball was slow as shyt... and it's had to show off your abilities the way Bo Jackson did it.
Many black athletes come from poorer areas so sports that involve too much extra expensive shyt are off limits (for the most part).. like Hockey and golf. And sports that are slow and aren't flashed in front of us like basketball and football aren't appealing after a while.
I always sucked at basketball and was good at baseball, but culturally wtf did I look like playing baseball? I played basketball for the same reasons that people got shot over Jordans - mostly ignorance. I'm not a black in latin America.. I was an inner city US black person and the culture doesn't lead us to that sport.

Whose the black superstar that is pushed to the masses and make a young black youth look out for baseball. Though they were multi sport athletes you had Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders playing baseball and selling shoes then you had a guy like Griffey coming through and everybody trying to pattern their swing after his. Kids today don't have that larger than life personality to look up too, to a sport that is already to slow for most of their attention spans anyway. Then you got kids today who have ipods and cell phones and internet and whatever else who don't want to go outside and play any sports on those summer days that we used to crave for. I remember going outside and 10 in the morning playing baseball football and basketball in one day and not coming back inside until right before it got dark. Now kids may not play one of those three sports the whole summer. Baseball is too slow for them. Football is too dangerous. And you would be surprised as the number of youth's I have come across over the years who will only play basketball in a gym and not on a dirt court.

Breh it literally has nothing to do with field upkeep. Right now the next Alex Rodriguez is playing in the alley in an impoverished Cuban city with no shoes on, a broomstick and rocks.

Has nothing to do with having money to upkeep with talent. You mean to tell me Lebron couldn't play center field? Lol 6"8 250 couldn't be a DH? What about Victor Cruz at SS, stealing bases, etc. The talent is there. The culture isn't.

3. no type of little leagues in the black community
4. Drugs and the peer pressure to fit in.in the neighborhood
5. ESPN and there showing 24 hours coverage of lebron and tom brady.
6. high schools in the black community eliminated baseball because of funds

if i ever had a son, my boy playing baseball, because he can play 20 years or more compared to 4 or 5 in b-ball or football

Yeah, i don't understand with the fascination of wanting be a football player over basketball or baseball, especially from a financial standpoint. If I ever have a son, he's definitely gonna play basketball, baseball and soccer. Not even gonna let him touch a damn football
