In the South, we can name more Boosie songs than Nas, Jay-Z, and Biggie combined.

So how come Nas can headline major festivals in the South like Essence Fest (18) One Music Fest (19). Co-Headline arena tours at venues like State Farm Arena in Atlanta...

yet Boosie can only do hole in the wall clubs in the South?
:comeon:
Because the hood ain’t paying for concert tickets my guy. And those festivals bring people from all around, not just the place that the festival is in.

I’m not saying Nas is a nobody in the south, just saying Boosie is more popular in the south than him.

If Boosie was popular, Promoters would be Lining up to book him at major shows.

Ross, Jeezy, TI, don’t have that problem in the South cuz they big

Boosie reminds of a popular IG thot, who thinks she’s more famous than she thinks

Norfeast groovin…
To me the point of the thread is that what artists are heralded and celebrated is predicated by region which has always been the case. With that, the region also determines the dominant style and the Northeast and the South are totally different with regards to what they look for.

Put it like this, East Coast Rap is more like Jazz with the clever improvisation and the rapid delivery while Southern Rap (and in some cases West Coast due to Great Migration influences) are more Blues/Soul where the emotion and mood of the song are just as of even sometimes more important than how complex the rhymes or lyrical structure is. This is why some of the backhanded responses in here are bullshyt. If you actually listened to Boosie or other southern artists of quality with an understanding of what elements make up refined Southern Rap Music.

Since Hip Hop began in NYC, the former is more universally touted than the latter. So rappers like Nas, Jay, Big get higher valuation in the genre while in some places, the standards and styles create a different metric which makes those kinda rappers not fit the regional criteria. This is why Pac is the most universally celebrated rapper also because his upbringing in the East Coast (upper south if you include Baltimore) and the West inculcated him with certain ideas and mores that made him identifiable with rap fans throughout Black America and beyond.

This shyt couldn't be further from the truth. Imagine me knowing more random Boosie songs than Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, and Nas. They could at least say Outkast, Geto Boys, Goodie Mob, Three Six Mafia, Lil Wayne, 8ball & MJG, or UGK. Not Boosie tho....:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

Boosie not even better than somebody like Project Pat :russ::russ::russ:
from the south n never listened to a boosie album

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
With all due respect why do some southerners like bragging about irrelevant shyt?

What exactly is the point of this info? Especially when Jay Z can go to Boosie town and outsell him in everything

:laff::laff:

Now had he replaced Jay Z with a man like Beanie Siegel/Styles P or something then maybe I’d see where he’s coming from lol

Somehow artists like Jay-z sell out arenas in minutes all over the south, while a Boosie does normal venues in his own city :francis:

I never bought that bullshyt, people talk about the south like another nation. People from places like Baton Rouge need to stop acting like those 200k who live there represent 150 million people. It’s worse than a dude from Buffalo talking about who’s popping in Buffalo as this is representative of everything East and north of Missouri

This is what I don’t get. Lots of people who boast about some of these artist just do it just to open their mouth not because their actually successful

what’s ignorant about listening to what’s poppin in your region? Me I was always different was drifted to east coast. But imagine calling someone ignorant cause they listen to music mainly from they state and surrounding state that talking directly to them and they lifestyle.

Lol you in your 50s and tbh I doubt you grew up in the areas that woulda been bumping this fam lol. You went to Georgia tech in the 90s lol.

New Orleans is one of the top 3 places in America to get good food. Memphis bbq, Texas has all kinda shyt. Florist and Louisiana seafood. Lol just stfu breh

No I think he’s calling the post ignorant and dumb. What exactly was the point of this information? Especially against Jay Z of all people?

What has Boosie accomplished over Jay Z?

Having lots of fans in Mississippi is not an accomplishment

Lol

P.S - Texas and Memphis are not respectable food places. Whatever they are good at in food can be found better in other places.

This sounds like an excuse. If Bossie was actually putting in that work you wouldn’t be saying any of this.

Also btw I find it ironic when people say a dude was popular in 2-3 states. If you only managed to be popular in 2-3 states then you are a bum.

South is more than 2-3 states though. I’m just going off life experience big dawg, I’ve heard more boosie played in the south than Nas. Even being in the Military, most dudes from the south just wasn’t feeling Nas like that, the popular ones but nobody was really about to give u B side lyrics like that.

I remember BG saying that he respected Nas and knew he had talent but he just didn't "feel" him like he did someone like Pac plus he didnt connect with the east coast beats. That makes sense to me

No reason to diss down south folk....
