Why is this being aimed at progressives, who’s policies are very popular vs traditional democrats who literally don’t do the things they should to Stay in Power. Whenever democrats fail it’s always someone else’s fault( black people, progressives, young people etc) but democrats never ever say “ what did we do wrong, what policies can we adopt to drive turn out, are we rewatching out to the right constituents?

Progressives do not have power in traditional politics. Traditional democrats have all the power and advantages and instead of acting like adults literally do the piss and moan and blame everyone but themselves. Mind you they’re completely incapable of beating a group of people (The GOP) who have no message because they refuse to move away from neoliberalism

It’s dumb as fukk
Says the man moaning and whinging.

I’ll probably infuriate you more now by referring to a very interesting answer given by Tony Blair on why progressive policies poll well, but never really get progressives over the line at elections, so I will apologise in advance.

He said, and I’m paraphrasing somewhat, that a 30-second soundbite of progressive policy sounds great. A 3-minute overview with a little more explanation always leads people to question the idea on practicalities. A 15-minute, comprehensive & costed, analysis usually leads people to decide that the policy Is unworkable and not really that great in reality.

Obviously Blair, no matter his successes, will be ignored by anyone further to the left for the ills & wrongs of Iraq, but he is right about this. I’d love to find the video, but can’t see it no matter how hard I look on youtube.

And the point was aimed at the young more than it was actual successful progressive politicians.

But your statement said it wasn’t white people when it was overwhelmingly them. NIMBYs drove this. Once again you were wrong and that’s fine just own it
Rich progressives drove the No campaign. Middle class people and suburban dwellers of ALL races voted Yes. Just admit you don't know anything about SF geography and demographics.

Literally just a bunch of words that don’t even attempt to address how inept traditional democrats are despite having literally every advantage including the media. Something progressives don’t have.

:heh: At quoting Blair. That’s good stuff

Nancy Pelosi would be proud.

Haha! I knew that wouldn’t go down well with you. At least I managed to get my apologies in advance.

Different points on the spectrum - sadly, I’d imagine that we’ll not find too much common ground, but carry on the good fight. Your posts are usually interesting. Thanks.

It’s much easier just being part of a ‘movement’ than it is to make real politics work.

I’ll probably cop a load of shyt for saying this, but I’m actually not sure how many progressive types, particularly very on-line ones, actually want to win elections.

I get the sense that quite a few are content never having to prove what they say can be put into actual effect, and are very comfortable to sabre-rattle from the fringes.

Not aiming this at anyone here, but moreso the lazy social media activists. I find them to be quite pathetic, particularly with the importance of matters which are normally at hand.

:heh:You really can’t just say “well looks like whites played a big role in this”
:mindblown: Of course they did, they're a significant demographic in SF. They were well represented on both sides.

The lesson should be that Virtually ALL DEMOGRAPHICS voted in significant numbers to recall a Progressive in a so called Progressive city. Only upper middle class progressives in the city center voted No, along with hipster gentrifiers in the Missio .

Crime is beyond bad out there. Cvs everything open for the taking. Ten yrs from now it will still be out of control. Got some friends who moved deeper into the burbs to get away from the nonsense.

Yet these same friends of mine voted , cried and marched for this lawlessness in the summer of 20. I only feel bad cause they have a baby now. They are Berkeley grads and still did this. Academically smart but real life they made questionable choices aka smart dummies . Poor baby I pray he gets to see many birthdays. With goofy parents like he has it wouldn't shock me if they would let an ex con come live with them.

Data released by the San Francisco Police Department in October 2021 did not support Walgreens’ claim that unchecked theft had forced it to close five stores. On average, the ill-fated stores had recorded two shoplifting incidents a month from 2018 to their shuttering dates in 2021.

Retail theft — particularly at Walgreens and other similar stores — ignited fear and anger at a moment when San Francisco seemed to be retreating from the progressive reforms instituted by Boudin, who pledged to fight mass incarceration and prosecute police officers.

i thought I shared this stuff before, but Walgreens and CVS announced these store closings in 2019.

They used the “crime surge” crap for anti-bail reform and criminal justice legislation. It was always a ruse.
