Had to neg you for this one.
His character isn't SUPPOSED to be believable. Its supposed to shock you into saying "there aren't really murderous teenage black boys that carry themselves this way...are there??" The movies was written meticulously to blur the lines between the heros and villains. By the end we don't know if O-Dog is our loyal best friend who would back us up no matter what, or the reason we're knee deep in shyt to begin with. And he sold that role 100%.
Overall it's nowhere as good as Boyz In Tha Hood in hindsight. Still one of my favorite movies of all time don't get me wrong. I just feel like Boyz In Tha Hood is a level above
Boys was directed much better and had better dialouge but it had NO depth. The movie was basically a poster that said "Gangs cause every problem. Be good and you can win" with some "Fatherhood is good" mixed in. Tre was pretty close to morally perfectct which is hella unrealistic. There's never any doubt a
Caine on the other hand was heavily flawed and MUCH more realistic. The crazy thing about Menace is that you could have directed that movie from like 6 or 7 different perspectives (Ronnie, O-Dog, Ileyna's cousin, Chauncey, Stacey, A-Wax) and they all would have been COMPLETELY different movies. That's what real life is.
