The team plays no defense, shaky substitution patterns, no strategy on offense. Apparently the culture in the locker room isn’t good either and that’s been reported by a couple of different outlets. At what point does the coach take responsibility for anything or is it just “well the players suck, so it’s not his fault".
This was a team that you and many others had pegged as a playoff team this season in the East and now that it’s become apparent that this is a terrible squad everybody is blaming the players and lack of talent. So which is it? Coach Pierce wont survive if this season continues like this
I disagree with the no strategy on offense. We get a lot of quality looks. We just can't shoot. As I said earlier this year, we lost Prince who shot damn near 50% of wide-open corner threes and he shot 7.3 threes a game and lost Bazemore who shot 6.3 3s a game a replace them with kids who can't shoot threes with volume like Hunter or someone like Cam has to shoot the ball much better. The lack of shooting is no surprise. The first question during training camp with LP was where's the shooting going to come from. You can't play modern NBA basketball with this type of personnel. We are literally shooting 25% from 3 this season without Trae. That's a historically bad mark for the NBA in general, much less modern NBA where it's critical. I really don't know what to tell you. I think LP has done well. I was there during the Woody rebuild. Woody couldn't coach. LP can coach and at times has coached his ass off but this squad is just ass for the modern NBA. No one can win with this. NO ONE!
The defense was expected to be shyt and has at times been decent but most of the time is shyt especially in transition.
I also disagree with the sub-patterns quip, some of these guys have min restrictions. He can only do so much considering what's available. We literally have a historically bad bench. I don't know what you truly expect. This isn't a Fizdale, he just isn't playing the right players. We don't have the players to begin with. TS dropped the ball trying to gain more assets.
I like so many other people overestimated that the vets we lost were no big deal. I looked at Baze as addition by subtraction. I didn't care that we lost Prince, we got two 1st rounders and Prince couldn't defend anyway. I didn't care we lost Dedmon, he wasn't that good anyway. I undervalued those guys to an EXTREME degree. That was my fault. TS seemed to do the same even if he had expectations of just 30 wins if everyone was healthy which hasn't been the case.
