well it's because people are calling them arabs, but yet persians get to be called persians, turks get to be called turks, asian muslims are asian,yet somehow these cats are arabs when they're berbers (amazigh). The older uneducated folks used to embrace it but now the younger more educated ones dont. Also there's been a push for the return of berber culture in a lot of north africans countries (berber tv shows and learning berber language in school). The article is misrepresenting shyt by making it seem like a huge deal in france when it really isn't and yes some french people are racist towards any non whites, especially muslims... but that's some you got that everywhere.

My ex girl who was Moroccan never considered herself Arab(me thinks it was because she was Atheist and westernized), but anyways popular to belief there are really no Arabs in Africa. Most North Africans(including Northern Sudanese) are just Arabized. IMO modern day North Africans are just a mixture of African males and European females. Studies have told us that and their Y-DNA and mtDNA also. Arab gene flow isn't even that big in Northwest Africa, but it is in Egypt though. Just my 2 cents.

And yeah I would also cautious the article, because I heard many times that North Africans are treated like sh*t in Europe. Especially during soccer games where they're called the N word.
