In 1998, Kevin Nash was the second biggest face in the wrestling business

I would say that Steve Austin was just ahead of Big Kev.

Rock was a heel for most of 1998 and when he made a brief face turn towards the end of the year, he wasnt as big as Nash. Sorry Rock fans :to:

Which brings me to Goldberg. I was watching their match at Starrcade 98 today and it was pretty obvious that the crowd were more behind Nash and wanted him to win. And the crowd reaction after he won was something else :wow:

You could argue that Sting lost his spark when he joined Wolfpack. He was playing second fiddle to Nash who was the fukin Wolfpack.

And dont even get me started on how crazy that 'Big Sexy' persona was :dwillhuh:

This is how I see it

1) Austin
2) Nash

Nash wasn't bigger than Goldberg.

As far as booking himself to beat Goldberg and win WW3 goes, even if you think everyone saying he wasn't the booker until like Feb/March 99 is lying, it still doesn't make sense unless you think he got removed from being the booker between Starrcade and the finger poke.

If he's trying to just abuse his booking power to benefit himself, why would he book himself to go from the #2 face who wasn't far from #1, to being Hogans lackey again and not main eventing?

Not only was the crowd at Starrcade fully in support of Nash, all crowds were in support of Nash in every interaction he and Goldberg had since August. Nash was the right choice to beat Goldberg, at the right time, with even the right finish. What came after kind of negated all of it, because somehow Hogan ended up as the top face about 2 months later. And crowds chose Hogan/Nash over Goldberg in 1999 even when they were heels. Nash was just too big, too sexy, and too sweet for Billy boy.

Don't agree with the stuff at the end, but yea, Starrcade 98 wasn't a bad finish. If The Corporation didn't get over on Austin by cheating half the time then he might not've stayed as over as he did, they needed to build some big obstacle for Goldberg to make their show interesting. They had a top face equal to WWF, but no Vince/Corporation to go along with it, and a stacked NWO made some sense I guess. The problem was somehow Goldberg ended up feuding with Bigelow and fukking Hogan and Flair were the WCW main event a couple months later.

Crowds were mostly in Nash's favor vs Goldberg.

Hogan's bum ass just latched onto the Wolfpac music & apparel to get back over. Hogan was never the top face.

Uh...he absolutely was. Somehow WCW fans started loving him in the middle of the feud with Flair in early 1999. He was suddenly CRAZY over despite doing some legit terrible things. Then he went away after Spring Stampede and came back to the red and yellow and basically had the same type of reactions as he got in 2002 when he came back to the WWF. Same type of nostalgia run and everything. I don't understand how any of it happened, but it definitely did.

Because he joined the most popular stable & aligned with the coolest face in wrestling....

He could not stand on his own.

Sting, Nash, Goldberg, & DDP were all much more loved than Hogan was.

That red & yellow nostalgia act didn't last too long either in 99. Lol at trying to force Sting heel to get his stale ass character cheered.

The Nitro at the Georgia dome in July 98 was sold out as soon as Goldberg-Hogan was announced as a local main event initially. It was sold out because of Goldberg. No other Raw or Nitro ever topped that. There's a reason why Nitro went from that to having blacked out arenas after the Fingerpoke.

The Wolfpac were heels when Hogan joined them, and then dissolved in February. There is no logical reason to how any of this happened, but it certainly did. Hogan and Nash turned face, crowds picked them over Goldberg, DDP legitimately turned heel for no reason whatsoever, DDP puts Hogan out of action at SS, Nash takes the title from DDP, Savage returns to take the title from Nash, Hogan beats Macho the next night, Nash immediately turns heel on Hogan, who goes back to the red and yellow. Meanwhile, Goldberg wasn't doing shyt.
