I liked both for different reasons. Coming To America was funny for its caricatures. Showing Eddie at his best for his impersonations and the absurdity of New Yorkers.
You must’ve missed the 2019 “new-black” continuation of Boomerang. Made by Lena Waithe and Halle Berry lol. Where Marcus gotten metoo lol.
The fact it lasted two seasons, with the 1st receiving 100% via Rotten Tomatoes is very telling

It's all run by finance types and sophisticated algorithms now. Except for superhero movies they would rather a bunch of mediocre films with predictable return than unpredictable big bets.
They can... They just don't want to. When you spend 100 million dollars and need to make back 300 million to keep your job and bonus, you ain't trying to hear how we shouldn't put out avengers 16, but lets try this brand new idea that's never been tried...
Boomerang is the embodiment of where black cinema needs to go. Movies like Boomerang, Life, Dead Presidents, and even The Best Man just had this amazing fulfillment that maybe, just maybe, black folks are human fukking beings, instead of walking minstrel shows.
Same went with Robert Townsend who exposed what was wrong with the movie industry but got BTFO when The Meteor Man came out, which sadly was underrated imo and did not deserve the flack that it received.
Hell, even the independent flicks like this one for instance:
Had a creative approach to black cinema. It just pains me that we will never get over this slump of having to get involved with the same fukking tropes that box stereotypes in a binder of creativity, ala hood flicks
I still get angered that Life did not get the recognition that it deserved, as it was considered a "comedy", rather than a drama with comedy aspects.
