No we don't. This is a myth and a lie, or for the very least an exaggeration. Americans are well equipt for all jobs on the market right now.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/22/opinion/krugman-the-jobless-trap.html?src=me&ref=general&_r=0

Then financial crisis struck, leading to a terrifying economic plunge followed by a weak recovery. Five years after the crisis, unemployment remains elevated, with almost 12 million Americans out of work. But what’s really striking is the huge number of long-term unemployed, with 4.6 million unemployed more than six months and more than three million who have been jobless for a year or more. Oh, and these numbers don’t count those who have given up looking for work because there are no jobs to be found.

its nutty that people think its a good idea to flood the job market with this going on

As a manager of a team of 23 highly trained developer. Foreign developers lag behind their American counterparts by a rather large margin on average.

That H1-B sh1t affects the most skilled positions... simply because these people are coming here knowing the newest skills and technology. They dedicate their life, and make it their life mission to get a high paying job ( 45-135/hr) in the US. They meet their goal at a rate of 70k+ of them coming every year.

They out here getting it.. and I can't hate on that. A lot of the skills they learn were developed by American minds and American companies. Is it their fault that we don't take advantage?

Wrong...overseas engineers are very rarely smarter than amercian engineers...that is just a myth pushed by CEO / CIO / IT leaders / to get cheap labor...The real reason these people are hired is because if you want a senior american engineer it is gonna cost you 120k plus full time benefits plus vacation...oh and we are gonna need to talk about work life balance because american engineer has a wife and 3 kids...and H1B guy is down to do the same work for 60K, no benefits, as a contractor, working around the clock charging no overtime, because as a hiring manager you got him by the balls and can pull the "slave away or go back to your village in Tahnzania"

I've worked at two major IT/Engineering companies...the two largest in the world...in senior level engineering positions and can give you a smooth breakdown of how a 120 K US job turns into a 60 K contract H1B job...

I work in a similiar position and would agree that on average american engineers and IT workers blow foreigners out of the water...

The only difference is...if we offer an senior level virtualization and storage admin job for 100 K then we can get a of american...drop it to 70 k and damn near none...

Only difference is money...and with so much automation going on in IT and engineering even the dumbest person can keep your shyt up 90 % of the time.

I didn't say smarter or more intelligent. I said easier. And yes, some CIO couldn't give a sh1t about a work life balance... I didn't say it was right.

:fidel: Bringem all in , hopefully its 330 million someday

well at least you're upfront about it, thats good

what i really hate is people spreading lies and saying we have a worker shortage and peddling other 'the sky is falling' scenarios if we don't grant amnesty
