This may be off topic, but what would the engineering and physics department in America look like if international students didn't occupy a decent portion of those seats...

Also:

Aren't there some people with computer science degrees that can't find jobs?

it isnt off topic, cuz the issue is, is there actually a crisis, i would say no, most foreign students in STEM that want to stay get to stay

i think the H1B should be eliminated and just become a normal visa but thats about it

i think this bill is opening up the floodgates for no real reason other than so companies can make a couple of bucks

H1B is the only reason these home grown tech people (minus the very super high skilled ones) can even get full time employment. H1B allow companies to only hire these people on a contract basis. Leaving the fultime w benefits positions for US and Candian Citizens (with TN visas) .. If they could hire H1B muthfakcers...... :whew::whew:

They would start a riot.

American workers in STEM careers. They would be pissed. I live in Detroit, and I'm in tech. I'm all cool with the immigrants. That's what you have to be in tech... but in urban areas and industrial areas... and in areas that lost their unions.... People don't like this immigrant skilled worker whose focus solely on producing highly creative, complex solutions-- and not focused on reality TV, gun bans, gay rights, Obama, Obama care, NK, American killings (because they are already too familiar with that type of sh1t), and random other sh1t.

On the good side though... tech is a great avenue for blacks to create a presence. It's wide open - with less discrimination than every thing else - because all people care about is the product. Plus it's changing so we can get in now and learn the new technology and out perform others with our creativity (the same creatively we are currently using for frivolous entertainment sh1t).

well changing the H1B to a regular visa is exactly what this immigration bill does, i was co-signing that part of the bill, i think changing it to H1B will be better because then the immigrant wont just be taken advantage of

my beef is with putting the doors wide open and basically saying any foreign student even non STEM gets a visa when they graduate which apparently is what this bill does

but h1b is caca tho, its just an indentured servant program

Most of the H1B people are getting more bread than they could EVER dream or imagine or pretend or fathom making in the home nation.. and many of then don't have the client facing or presentation or communication skills... so they are paid accordingly.

They aren't really paid that bad. Most of those skill worker are getting more cash than the average america - and they don't have to pay back Gross over priced US degrees. They don't have to even do the heavy lifting job hunts or deal with stress and insecurities that us people face - because their employers always got that work for them or they can get paid on the bench. I talk w these people everyday, sh1ts sweet... it's not perfect but it's not slavery... Plus US people are getting paid to organize the entire process.

As far has this bill is concerned -it's horrible. Foriegn students shouldn't get automatically made a citizen unless they provide a valuable skill to an american company and they secure employment thru H1 - to Green card - stay out of trouble - then apply for US cit.

yeah i know how it works, but i think its better to have a native work force, if they are gonna work for US companies they might as well just get a regular visa

but looks like i misspoke, the bill doesnt rid of H1B, it increases the size of it, but the h1b holders would then have a leg up in the new point system that is being proposed and the foreign students that might go into h1b now dont have to use it and get a regular visa

but either way a flood is coming if this passes

That H1-B sh1t affects the most skilled positions... simply because these people are coming here knowing the newest skills and technology. They dedicate their life, and make it their life mission to get a high paying job ( 45-135/hr) in the US. They meet their goal at a rate of 70k+ of them coming every year.

They out here getting it.. and I can't hate on that. A lot of the skills they learn were developed by American minds and American companies. Is it their fault that we don't take advantage?

no its not there fault. and its not ours either. because we attempt to take advantage but it wasnt given to us like it was them. why do you think they have that ability to take advantage? because it was given to them for cheap. because these american corps already knew they would use that cheap labor. of course that was before we were serious about making illegal folks legal.

Japan, but from the 989
You're misunderstanding what I'm saying..... EVERYBODY is leaving the country to find stable employment. There are degree holders from every branch teaching overseas because the job market here is that s**tty.

You are 100% correct. And its a good hustle too. People are teaching English over Skype and are making GOOD money.

What they're trying to accomplish, I think, is a type of reverse brain-drain. These American companies don't want other science/tech companies overseas to compete, so they want to gouge all the best talent from them and bring it over here, and have them strengthen not only our corporations, but also our academic departments to keep the talent pool domestic.

We did create a reverse brain drain back in the 1900s. For example, Middle Eastern and Asian immigrants could only come to America if they had a Masters of Ph.D. And this was especially true for countries like Iran, which saw a huge wave of doctors and scientists leave for America.
