It was the best movie of 2009 but 2009 wasn't overflowing with great films.
I'd say the closest movies to Inglorious Basterds were Up and Moon.
Avatar was visually stunning but it wasn't really more than an OK movie.

Actually, I'm looking at my IMDb ratings and '09 was low-key a good year.

Johnnie To's Vengeance, Black Dynamite, Bad Lieutenant: Port Of New Orleans, Coraline, Antichrist, Precious, Drag Me To Hell, In The Loop, Madeo, the real The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Universal Soldier: Regeneration, Valhalla Rising, Enter The Void, Bandslam.

Of course it also gave us X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li, Dragonball Evolution, GI Joe: Rise Of Cobra, Terminator: Salvation and Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen so it might've also been one of the worst years for summer blockbusters ever.

Bronson was good but most of my enjoyment of it came from Hardy's performance and just that alone.

It ain't breh lol. Shawshank is tough but if you're asking me to pick between that and pulp fiction, a film that influenced every movie after it for that decade and continues to impact films in terms of character, structure, dialogue, etc, it's a no-brainer for me
