I've seen city of God probably over 20 times and I keep noticing something new.

Way better cinematography and better story than goodfellas and im a Scorsese fan.

Goodfellas is actually and over rated movie. Casino was way better , goodfellas got all the hype cause ray liota was the it guy at the time but never lived up to the hype.

It was the best movie of 2009 but 2009 wasn't overflowing with great films.
I'd say the closest movies to Inglorious Basterds were Up and Moon.
Avatar was visually stunning but it wasn't really more than an OK movie.

whats wrong with my post? city of god is a "lets document an era/subculture/crime film told over a time period in a fast moving story". as far as the cinematography, that only gets ya so far breh. the story gotta be interesting as well. also, i hate voice overs at this point. scorsese uses it too much as it is. i give him a pass since goodfellas was the og version but all these films using it seems like cheating to me.

watched that for the first time ina while yesterday as it happens. damn good film. man, tarantino has a lot of talent. i wish he was a better director, but his ideas and concepts are fantastic. great at dialogue and tension building and knowing how to build a scene. the ending was top notch. a better director could have made it better visually, which is QTs weaknes. his visual style is kinda basic. imagine what hitchcock would have done with that ending.... but it was a very good film as it was.

Yeah the cinematography is great but that isn't the only reason City if God is a masterpiece. It's probably the best crime movie since goodfellas. I never confuse them cuz they both totally different bruh.
