Literally no one said that quote happened until 1995 when some old white guy made it up for a book, and even then it was only 1 person making up a new quote.
Like I said, just use your head. Since LBJ was a white man from the South and since the South was the center of his base, why the fukk would he think getting the 20% Black vote in the South while losing the 80% White vote in the South was a win?

Democrats went from being the dominant party in the South to getting crushed in the South in just one election, then lost the whole country in the election after that. LBJ as VP was already winning every state with a meaningful Black population, and he was winning them with the vote of the racist whites that dominated those states. The Black vote didn't determine the winner of a ingle state. And you seriously think they thought the Civil Rights Act was going to be some big voting win for them?
Answer the question I asked - why would LBJ be bragging about getting the 20% of Black voters in the South knowing he was gonna lose the 80% White racist voters in the process?
