Threadstarter is obviously a young cac....

I'm a young cac because I don't like a song made by a borderline wack group glorifying the first of the month and the fukkery that comes along with it? :what:

If I were a white boy I wouldn't give a fukk about the song or the message it sent because it wouldn't effect me and I probably wouldn't know wtf the song meant.

A bunch of nikkas in here claiming this song a classic strictly off of nostalgia alone and don't want to get off their high horse and admit that this song is some pure monkey shyt and wouldn't be tolerated if a young Atlanta nikka w/golds made it.

Do you know how many songs in the 90's were about killing nikkas, sellin crack to your own people, drinkin malt liquor and pimpin black women but still turned out to be hits? :snoop:

You sound dumb as fukk cherrypicking one song when damn near that entire generation of music was on some self-genocide shyt...classics are classics nikka, I suggest you stick to Lupe and ATCQ cause sound like a square.

As a Cleveland native that song was just some real sh!t. Say what you want but them nikkas from bone was out there in them streets like that. Not on some super gangster/Drug Dealer sh!t but on some neighborhood hoodlum type shyt

The difference is, these rappers today would have too much pride to even admit they get a check on the first of the month. These nikkas haven't even put out a mixtape talking bout how they getting racks and they got a condo on their wrist.

If 1st of the month came out today it wouldn't be a hit cause nobody wants to hear about any kind of struggle no more, they want to pop bottles. I doubt if the radio would even play it

:skip: Lupe is wack.

nikka the majority of Hip Hops history is "self-genocide". From P.S.K to now rap music and violence has pretty much gone hand in hand for a number of years. Some things you gotta accept.Am i supposed to make a thread about EVERY song from Pocket full of stones to Thank God For That White that were on some monkey shyt?

I chose "1st of tha month" to show the fact if a nikka from this generation made a hit song about cashing welfare checks to buy some kush old heads would riot,Al Sharpton would hold a press conference and there wouldn't be a a chance in hell that the song would be deemed "classic".Would old heads give a fukk if a nikka from Atlanta made a song about pimpin' or killin' nikkas?Nope because those are accepted topics within our genre, that shyt wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

nikkas just won't admit to the double standard

nikkas would crash the servers complainin' about how these new nikkas are destroying black culture by releasing a song celebrating food stamps/welfare checks. But because bone released it in the mid 90's it's a celebrated classic?

Explain this logic to me old heads :leostare:. That song sounds like a fukkin' Boondocks parody.shyt ain't even that good to begin with.More c00nish than anything Gucci did.

It was easier to relate to this song back in the day than it would be in this day in age. Times have changed

There's actually valid points bein made on both sides. If a Future type cat came out with this song today, the blogs and everybody else wouldn't be able to shyt talk him down fast enough. But there is something to be said for how material is executed. The vibe from the beat and the song in general is more day in the life as opposed to glorifying not having shyt.

Folks been broke for a long time and records are going to be made about it. Some are gonna come across as contrived and as pandering. Others are gonna make you think about what you did and how you could've been better similar to a "buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto" type vibe. (Even if the lottery is complete shyt)

So if a generic southern cat dropped this record today he would probably be public enemy #1, but it would be because he wouldn't have the skill to come across genuine nor the ability to write the song without bragging.

Valid points, don't see what being geniune/braggadocios would have to do with it though.

I doubt people would be like "this shyt would be cool if he wasn't talking about his swag" :ld:

Not necessarily whether it would be cool, but presentation is everything. Particularly in a medium like music. Would you use auto tune on a song like One Mic? If you did wouldn't it dilute the message and the goal of the song overall? It wouldn't change the words but it would create a different context.

So when making a song like 1st of the month (which has an overall negative message), doing it in a style that comes off more like "this is the life I lead for better or worse" as opposed to "nikka can't wait for the check to come" makes a big difference.
