I'm not sure being the best technical wrestler in the business is worth a damn if you can't convince me you want to win matches instead of showing off your skill. The Okada match had everything for him to take the next step but Sabre chose to keep doing his "look how many cool shyt I can pull off" thing. I haven't seen him in almost a year so the match was still very entertaining to me, but his shtick gets old when that's the only thing he does - that's why I stopped watching his matches - doesn't matter if he can counter every move in wrestling history and make it look painful and crisp, when he can't make me believe that a match is real competition/fight, he can't be elite in my eyes. Entertaining? yes, no doubt. One of the best? Nah.

And I'd still take Thatcher over Sabre any day of the week.

The story of the match was Sabre being able to counter everything Okada threw at him, but not being able to wear Okada down in the way he did his NJ Cup opponents. It wasn't showing off...his whole character is based on him being dangerous due to how good he is at counters and can stretch his opponents in limitless ways.

You say this is the first Sabre match you seen in a year, so you didn't see how dangerous he looked basically torturing Tana, Ibushi, Naito throughout the cup. I agree his shyt was style over substance in the past, but since joining Suzuki-gun it has brought a more interesting dimension to his wrestling style. It's not just reversals and submission holds for the sake of it.

My point is that in the Okada match it was exactly that.

I didn't see it like that :manny:

He was trying to stretch Okada out like all his previous opponents but Okada was too good to let him.

:dwillhuh: breh, Sabre stretched the fukk out of Okada as much as he wanted, anytime he wanted. The whole first half of the match (like 17-20 minutes) established that Okada couldn't do shyt but get owned on the mat by ZSJ, who instead of working a body part when he clearly made big damage - and was sold by Okada as such - decided to keep switching submissions and taunt the crowd, instead of showing urgency and making me believe he wanted to win the damn match.

It's his character's weakness. The same way Suzuki insists on going for the Gotch style piledriver instead of just choking his opponents until they turn blue and pinning them.:ehh:

Sure - Zack Saber is playing this sadistic, cocky character (hence the crowd taunting), but IMO he goes after pretty much every body part at the same time with the 'Orienteering w. Napalm Death' so it kinda makes sense that he keeps on switching the holds to do as much damage as possible before he slaps on his finisher. :manny:

I get that breh, my whole thing is that that character/gimmick leads to matches that lack the depth I appreciate in elite workers and more often than not end up being "look how much cool shyt I can do" matches. That are fun from time to time, but not elite level :manny:

And I love MiSu but he's the definition of wrestler that can give you an outstanding performance when he gives a shyt but the rest of the time he's not close to reaching those levels, as he coasts through his charisma/talent to "good enough" matches and not much else.

My biggest pet peeve is that his in ring style has little flexibility. His opponents will spend most of the match trying to get out of his holds and are forced to wrestle his style.
