Worst era in hip hop history

thanks atlanta

Watched video for 30 seconds and had same exact thoughts.

That really was the worst era of hip hop. That shyt lasted way too long.

decent song...vocals are pretty good. But yeah that snap shyt was terrible, we never recovered from that era
At least T.I and Jeezy gave it Balance during that period:yeshrug:
Its literally how it has been in every period of hip hops history, always balanced, theres never a shortage of rappers you will like regardless of whatever particular sub section of rap music you enjoy the most. And there will never be a shortage of haters saying how this is the worst era and its killing hip hop. Im guilty of doing it too, but I also have lived long enough to be in a time where looking back, the snap era was not so bad compared to what were in now...God willing I will reach a time where I will be able to say the same about the current fukkery and what will rise out of that. Cause one thing Hip Hop always does is pull the reigns back in when shyt starts going too left and you get a return back to the roots and core principles. Until then, lets just enjoy these wayback playbacks from the golden snap era

A lot of those snap songs were never huge to begin with. I mean, yeah, "Laffy Taffy" is the worst of the worst and it hit #1, but ya'll act like those songs dominated an era where Kanye, Wayne, T.I., Ludacris, and Jeezy had far bigger hits and Lupe Fiasco (yes, Lupe) had albums that were outselling albums from snap rappers. Lyricists from the 90's were still moving major units like Jay and Nas. Common and Busta were selling.

When people complain about the snap sound of the era, I think they aren't saying that there were a bunch of huge hits. I think they're talking about the sheer volume of snap tracks. It felt like every other week there was a new random ass group/solo act with a single that had that sound, or some older semi-established artist trying the sound out.

Whenever someone says that a sound in any genre is inescapable, it's never about the hits, it's about all the people coming out of the woodwork trying and mostly failing to get hits.

I wish Fabo had came out a few years later cause that era of Atlanta rap was terrible but he was always a bright spot

Yep. This song I posted as far as I know got zero radio play. Everybody trying to get on was incorporating that snap sound, both rap and R&B.

Always felt like this once that era ended. There were a lot of fun songs being made then, but wow there were a ton of bad ones.

yup.

It was a fun time period no more no less if you were a club goer.

There’s a time and place for everything, some stuff belongs in headphones where you can sit down with it.

Snap was what it was, snappy music for the club. nobody wanted to try to dance to bumpskiggedy bumpskiggedy boom bap from the essence music

I mean the snap shyt didnt age well at all and is maybe the most dated hiphop sound ever but it was fun for clubs/parties. Everything doesnt have to be lyrical/serious/gangsta. Tha problem was that there wasnt much balance and stations and TV were ONLY playing that shyt and it got tired and repetitive fast.

That being said, I could go my whole life without hearing any of that shyt EVER again
